so I am considering replacing my 1 year old P30L (~250rds) for a smaller piece i can use more easily for CCW. Currently im looking at the ppk (NOT ppk/s) or the beretta px4 subcompact. I am well versed in .380 vs 9mm, so i know what im getting into, just wondering what people thought would be the better carry piece.
PPK: + always wanted one, small, good shape/size, easy to find holsters - heavy, heard it jams, only 7 rds Px4SC: + 13 rds, comfortable size (i am not a large person but I find the large p30 grips the best), extended mag grip (though usefulness in engagements debatable) - expensive, unsure about holster situation, general lack of information (on my part) thanks for your help!!! btw ive never fired either. |

Havent fired those 2 because I dont know anyone who owns either :
I didnt look at a USPc because a close friend of mine used to have one, and after shooting that and my p30l he sold the usp the next day because he said it was night/day in terms of accuracy/comfort in favor of the p30. Subcompact glocks have never felt comfortable to shoot for me, that might be because i was shooting the g33 and 357 sig in such a small frame... not sure. My buddy's XD had a ton of reliability problems (he sold it for a 1911 eventually). Ive liked sigs in the past, but honestly have no idea which one to look at. The walther and beretta were at my local FFL yesterday when i stopped by, which is why I thought of those 2. I just got my permit, so im a complete novice for concealed carry. Thanks for the suggestions, im definitely gonna expand my options. |

Do you mean glock 33?
The 34 is a big honkin' 9mm used for competition. The Glock 26 (subcompact 9mm) has very mild recoil in my opinion. Also see if they have the M&P9c there. Kinda surprised to hear that your buddy had problems with his XD, they're not my favorite gun but they do seem pretty reliable. I had an XD9SC that never gave me any problems, and I put a lot of rounds through it in a short period of time. I found it a little bulky, though. |

OP, I would rethink.
IMO PPK is fail for primary carry. .380 is below my threshold. I was obsessed with ppk's in the 90's, went through four pistols, all went down with mechanical problems, or shot WAY offline. The safety and double action setup is not good. Safety is hard to manipulate, and the gun is not safe to carry with safety off–– no drop safety, unless they changed that. First trigger pull is about 19 pounds. For about the same size, look at Kahr MK9. Easiest/safest 9mm carry is for me HK P7M8. Midsized, but SLIM. if your P30L is working well, I would definitely keep it and look for a better holster solution. |
