I am in the market for a new 45acp and have been searching.
i ran into a beautiful Sig 220 that was stainless with rosewood grips and it just grabbed my attention. I also like the Colt Defender, Colt Commander, Kimber UC, and a few others. I am just not sure if I want a 1911 at this time. Natron |
| My experience with the compact 1911's are pretty bad as far as consistent accuracy. I've seen 2 Colt specimans that went bang but were Minute of Paper as far as accuracy. The 220 is a good piece, I carried one for years but I traded to a glock 21sf for more capacity and I don't regret it. |

The SIG 220 is a good choice if you're not yet a 1911 fan. I had a chance to shoot one some time ago and have decided to add one to my wish list. I do have a SA 1911 compact, and I agree with the previous poster that subcompacts may not have the accuracy beyond 20 feet or so, and that may be fine for typical defense scenarios.

I do love my Colt Commander but I would get the sig. |

HK45C Or even a USPC .45 As far as accuracy goes I have shot my good friends Kimber TLE RE many times and it is as accurate if not more than any of my HK's. I really liked it, but I have just seen too many folks have issues with 1911's, so I think the only 1911 I would buy is a Clackamas, OR production Kimber. They were different back in the day when they were hand made. |

I carry a Colt Commander, and it not only goes bang, but com hits are assured out to twenty five yards. I also have a Sig 220 SAO, the sig is a fine weapon, it's lighter than my Colt, the only reason I don't carry it all the time is that the gun is wider, and tends to print a little more. Either one will serve you well |

I am just not sure if I want a 1911 at this time. Natron 1911's are expensive. They may require personal involvement beyond aligning sights and pulling the trigger. They can be time consuming. So... makes sense to me. Come on over to the dark side with the rest of us. |
| The whole "try before you buy" thing worked well for me,I was in the very same predicament, wanted a non-1911 .45 ,I tryed out everything i could and wound up w/the HK45.I never even thought about a HK but as soon as i felt it in my hand i was sold,The p220 is a sweet gun as well. |

How about you give us what you are looking for. When I was looking for my last .45 I set the following rules:
What it would be used for: Bedside gun, sidearm to take hunting, SHTF gun 1. Accuracy, paramount...if you don't hit what you are aiming at then what's the point? 2. Reliability, any new name brand weapon should give me this 3. Round Count, more is always better here 4. Weight, less is always better here 5. DA/SA capability with external safety so it could be cocked and locked but have 2nd strike capability Once I had all that I started compairing my options and came to just a couple conclusions: 1. Dual Stack 2011, but I didn't like the reliability concerns there 2. FNP-45 3. H&K USP 4. H&K Mk23 With the lowest weight, best earginomics, and significantly highest round count I went with the FNP-45. 15+1 of .45acp and just as acurate as my 1911's and more accurate than my H&K's. No brainer. If I was looking for a carry gun though I would have looked at some Commander 1911's, HK45c or G36. |
