| I have a Star PD which is a .45 and have lost the Saftey Plunger Spring. I have looked all over the place trying to find and buy the part but can not find anyone that has one. Just wondering if that is a part someone could custom make or if it would be interchangeable with the same part from another 45? Any help would be greatly appreciated |

IIRC the spring is under the safety catch itself, inside a hole in the frame, rather than being the Colt 1911 type coming in from the side. Star used this method on most of their guns of this type. Even though the PD and the BM are way different parts wise, they might share the same spring. You'd have to see if one would fit in the hole. Brownells sells just springs of all kinds. See if they have a multi-pack of various tiny springs for sale. If you can find one close enough, you can trim it to fit, or use a spacer if it's too short. It only has to operate the detent on the safety. For that matter see if one of the springs on your AR lower, or really any other gun that you can get to the spring, will fit in the hole. The key is the diameter and that it will have enough travel to work the detent easy enough. Check the hardware store as well. Just take your plunger and see if you can find a spring that diameter that looks like it might work. Unfortunately I don't know of any direct replacement, but it's a simple coil spring. Just find one that fits in there and trim it. Ross |
