I have a PT-92 but it doesn't feel right in my hand and I hate the trigger. I want a 5" Single/Double or Single action 9mm, what are my options.

CZ 75 or a variant thereof, if it's a five inch you're after. My dream gun is an HK p30, which is known for being comfortable. Also consider a Sig 226, 228, or 229. I'm sure there are others that I'm forgetting.

A yes, also the browning high power.

CZs an option.

but what i would do is to head on over to your LGS or a Gun Show and start fondling as many as you can.  "feel" is subjective.  alot of people like the CZ, some people dont.  you wont know until you "feel" one. same with others too.

btw, one thing nice about CZ is that they offer DA/SA and SAO.

BHP is SA only, FNP-9 is DAO.  Not both.   I think the OP is asking for a DA/SA trigger, where it is DA 1st shot, then SA until it is empty just like the beretta that he is looking to get away from.  I have huge hands, but can't shoot the 92F either.  My big gorillahands like thin grips the best.

The big SA/DA nines besides the berettas are going to be the CZ-75 variants, pretty much Sig's full line (except 238, their 1911s and their SAO or DAO varients), walthers like the PP line, P88, etc, most Hks, S&W 3rd gen semi autos, Ruger P-series.  Then there are some of the more oddball guns that fit the requirements like the Colt Double Eagle, the Arcus double-action high power clones, Baby Eagle, Witness, etc (CZ clones anyways).  I think FN also had some DA/SA guns before the polymer FNP came out.

That covers a lot of ground, so it would help to know what your requirements are for concealability, competition, capacity, etc.  Assuming that you want a 5" barrel means that you are not neccisarily looking for a compact deep-concealment gun, then you have a ton of options.

When it comes to DA/SA, I like Sig Sauer's operation and ergonomics the best.  Their de-cocker design becomes second nature and is very reassuring to have a control separate from the safety and mounted in such a good spot.  With this in mind, their pistol selection covers everything from slim, single-stack nines to high capacity, full-size duty pistols.  They go from simple duty guns to modern, highly finished guns with night-sights, melt jobs, improved triggers, grips, rust resistant springs and finish, rails, lasers, etc.  Excellent quality, service, and easy to get parts and components to fix them should you have a problem.  I'm sure someone will be along to point out their gripes about Sigs....I have my gripes about them myself, but for a DA/SA trigger, they are probably one of the best out there and they are mostly all very high quality and run great.  They also run a good Certified Pre-Owned program where you can get a substantial discount on past and present models.

The P226 Equinox needs to be seen in person to be fully appreciated.  Very cool looking.  Picture is kind of misleading.  Good Grip angle and much thinner than the 92F.

I stand corrected!  You don't see them often or at all around here. I think I should learn a bit more about the modern FN offerings.  I prefer hammer to strikers.

Pretty clean looking pistola!

They are also offered with a safety similar to a USP setup- the FNP9-USG

CZ-75.  You can carry it DA/SA or safety on and SA only.

If you don't mind a pistol that's considered "out dated" (I sure as hell don't think it is) look at a Walter P38 or a surplus P1 which is the West German army P38.

Nice gun,I personally want to CCW mine.

Being cheap as I am, the Sig P6/P225 looks very attractive. Any input on them, if I had the $800+ to spend a new Sig would definitely be my choice. Should also add, being in NY any capacity over 10+1 isn't a selling point Also they restricted my pistol permit to Hunting and Target for at least 2 years before I can request a full carry permit. God I hate NY.

If I was limited to 10+1 and didn't want a striker fired or single action only firearm I'd buy a Sig P220.

Used, you can find them in the $450-500 range.

P6s were a good deal, but finding one for the price they were selling for a year or so ago would be difficult. Also, you'll probably want to change the sights and the mainspring to make it an effective concealed carry pistol - though it sounds like you have a while for that.

Single action only is fine, I'd love a 1911 9mm, and the 5" barrel is just what I'd like. When I went to the gun shop looking for a new 9mm everyone he handed me was DAO, and the only High Power was old and beat to hell.

9mm 1911s can be hit or miss, but if you get a "hit" it's a truly outstanding firearm...

So you are looking for a single action with second strike capability?  I have to agree with people saying that a CZ75 variant is probably going to be the best bang for the buck.

Either a CZ SP-01 or CZ 75, or an FN FNP-9.

If carry becomes an option at some point for you then the FNP-9 is a better choice, though the smaller CZ compact models are very very good.

A P226 is almost identical to a 92FS in grip dimensions. The 226 is technically a smaller-circumference grip, but in no way "much thinner" than a 92. Now, it may *feel* significantly thinner, but in actual dimensions, they're pretty damn close. The similarity to the 226 is something I always bring up when people bitch and bitch about the Beretta being "too big for 9mm". Well, the P226 is roughly the same size - the only dimension that really offers a lot of difference between the platforms is length, since the Beretta sports a longer barrel than the SIG.

Also, the reset on a stock DA/SA SIG is absolutely horrendous. With the new SRT it's fine, but a stock 226 won't be sporting the SRT. (Do the Equinoxes now come with SRT?)

If you like the 1911 platform you can always pick up a Colt .38 Super and fit a 9mm barrel to it. Add some 9mm mags, tweak the extractor, and be GTG

really?  I gotta see this.  I believe `ya!  Just what my hands have been telling me is a different story.  Actually, if I think about it, it is a combination of the grip size/circumfrence and the reach to the trigger on the 92F that bugs me.  It's not that the grip is too big, it just feels that way when I have to reach up to the trigger. It places the pad under the index finger on my palm away from being the firmest part of my hand on the grip.   226 does not feel "small" but it fits like a full-size pistol should.  Fills the hand like a 1911 or BHP would. Cool info though!

Yep. I've since sold my 226, so I can't post numbers, but they are very close. It's a matter of how it "feels" - some find that the 92 feels bulkier than the 226 (even though it's not any appreciably larger) while others don't.
