I just bought a Glock and have a aftermarket metal magazine catch (eliminating the eating the mag catch problem), and was wondering are there any good quality Steel Glock mags on the market and if so what brand and where are they found? Will they drop free? (Maybe that is a stupid question, but that is the point really.) The prices are crazy right now ($80-100+ for a drop free mag) |
| When it comes to glock mags it's best to stick with OEM. That metal mag catch will also eat up your OEM mags. OEM 10rnd Full Metal Lined aka "drop free" mags can be had for 16.00 (free shipping over 25.00) at www.ivanhoesoutlet.com I would get a OEM mag catch and put it in. Metal mags are junk and OEM mags won't eat up the mag catch. |

"I would get a OEM mag catch and put it in. Metal mags are junk and OEM mags won't eat up the mag catch." It's an extended competition mag catch and from what I have seen most of these are steel. I haven't seen any evidence of it putting undo wear on my Glock mags. A 15rd aftermarket drop-free steel mag that works to me is better than a 10rd OEM Glock. I was trying to contemplate the purpose of polymer coating mags and all I could think of was that it could only be to make the mags asthetically appear similar to the handgun. Otherwise it is just needlessly overcomplicating the design. As far as genuine Glock mags a 15rd drop free mag is not worth $100 to me. That is really a flaw (a non-drop free mag is something that should never have been designed). |

I think there used to be one good brand of metal aftermarket Glock mags, but I can't remember the name. I have gotten some pretty good (relatively speaking) deals on Glock mags at gunshows. What Glock did you get? A 19? Ah well hopefully in September this issue will be behind us. |

I got a Glock 19 and it has a mag well that unfortunately covers most of a G19 mag. Mag changes are slow if the mag doesn't drop free (I have to dig it out.) Drop free mags are probably worth 4 times what a good metal mag would be worth if it existed on the market. Otherwise I guess I could possibly use G17 mags and leave myself something to grab during mag changes. |

"($80-100+ for a drop free mag)" These are pretty much the prices, not that I really want to pay them. CDNNINVESTMENTS.COM has used G17 NDF mags for $40 each. That is pretty expensive to me as two years ago they were at my local gun store for $18, and the ban MAY (key word) go out in SEPT. I guess I could just trade my G-19 mags for G-17 10 rd mags (I have 6 10rd G-19 mags.) but it just seems pretty stupid to have to have an extra inch of mag with = 10rd capacity just to allow you to pull the mag out of the gun without waisting all the time in the world. I had a glock before and all the mags would drop at least 3/4inch before hanging up, not here, the mag well is tight and the mags don't drop at all. For all you glock fanatics how do you guys compare that to a 1911's simple always drop free system? Armorall might work but what happens when you need the gun to save your life and the armorall has dried up? That just doesn't give me much confidence. |
