Looking for anyone that will give an account of how they feel about this pistol. Not a searching some search engine and getting some off the wall post...
I would to have better feelings about what I might hear from in here and trust it more. Looking for both pro and con perspectives..
thanks

Old_Painless did an article about this pistol. You can find it on his Web site:

ETA His article was more about the use of the .410 for snake shot than the gun itself, but it is a good place to start.

I think it's a lousy self defense gun against two legged critters.  It's far bigger and heavier than other 44 or 45 revolvers, and 410 shotshell is a poor choice against humans.  For a large sidearm for snake defense?  I suppose it's viable.  But even for that I'd rather have a standard 44 mag or 45 LC revolver and just keep the first chamber loaded with bird shot.  I used to deer and hog hunt in snake territory and that's what I used, and I killed many snakes and grouse with that 44 mag shot shell.

In other words, I think the Judge is a gimmick, a solution searching for a problem, a marketing phenomena.

Now, if it's just for fun and you want one?  Then it's a fine choice.

It is SLIGHTLY more than this: It is a finger in the eye of those states that prohibit those kind of weapons.

I bought mine as purely a "fun gun." And it's quite a hoot! But after the "cool factor" wore off  I kinda' wished I had gotten a .45 colt Blackhawk instead. The Blackhawk is better made, and can still deal with snakes by using .45 colt snakeshot.

In conclusion: if you're looking for a fun gun, or something for snakes go for it! But make sure you weigh all your other options to!

A friend of mine has one, he seems to enjoy it.
I find it to be large  and heavy, and it's not a great .45lc shooter, and the chamber is a little to tight for some of the brass we tried to use.

if your looking to shoot .45 Long Colt, I suggest a Ruger blackhawk, but for a little handheld shotgun I think it's pretty cool.

I use one as a boat anchor on my john boat. It holds pretty good but if the wind is more than 10 knots I need something heaver.

The Judge is too bulky for me. The shallow rifling that it uses also makes shotshells less effective. I'd rather have it made with a smoothbore, but due to NFA laws it has to have some rifling in order to keep its status as a pistol.

It'll get someone killed when they try to use .410 shells to defend themselves one day, because they bought into the marketing.  bigger than it needs to be for a .45 LC, and too ineffective for defense in .410.

For, fun, conversation piece, or rats and snakes, it's probably alright if the owner understands its limitations.

Thanks for the honest replys, much appreciated, even the attempted humor and prima dona remarks. Everyone needs a good laugh now and then.... I just think "then" would have been more appropriate then "now"...
At any rate, you can never get away from all of them.... From what I heard here here not some topic found somewhere else, I got honest feelings that gave me what was needed to make an educated choice...
thanks...

Last year my wife bought one for her & a Charger for our wedding anniversary.
She brought them to opening day for gun season last year & the guys had never known a wife to buy a gun for herself & hubby as an anniversary gift.

Hers is a 2 1/2" Night Court Judge.  It lives either in her work van, her Mini or the Bimmer.  For me its more of a big ass gun for close & personal social interactions.

To me w/ std 000 3 pellet buck shot loads it kicks less then her Ruger SP101 2 3/8" .357 mag w/ .38+P loads.  At 5' the 00 buck patterns at about 4".  Stretch that range out to 15' & its about useless...its about a 12" to 14" triangle shaped pattern.  We now have Federal's new Personal Defense® .410 ammo.  I should get some time this weekend to pattern it w/ the Federal.  Linky to info on the Federal PD loads.

Yeah the guns a bit heavy for what it is...but 5 shots of 000 buck at carjacking range is pretty stout.

7mm

The Judge is an awesome fun gun. Go shoot clays with it.

Seriously - one of the guys on the skeet range brought his out one day after we finished a round. Incredibly fun.

They have a video somewhere of a store owner shooting a would be robber in the head with one... It knocked the guy out, but I guess it just bounced off his head and didn't crack the skull or anything... He must have used either a .410 slug or a .45LC.

My father kept ranting and raving about how neat they were.  i sat him down and showed him the Box'O Truth.  he changed his mind a little.  Says he'd never carry one, but would maybe like to own one.

I absolutely hate the commercials and magazine ads that show a Shhot'n C target all turned bright green and perforated with a shit tone of holes.  Yes it looks impressive, but it's freaking paper and it isn't trying to kill you.  They are shooting bird shot to show the immense power of this handgun and I'd carry a .410 pistol with birdshot about as soon as I'd carry a .22lr for self defense.  Very dangerous adds because people think it's like a pocketable 12 guage.

Why on earth would I want a huge revolver that only shoots 5 shots, is chambered for .410 and 45lc, neither of which is easily or cheaply found where I live and the barrel isn't even rifles appropriately to shoot 45lc in my opinion?  I'd rather have a 44 mag or 357 mag Ruger Blackhawk or a DA revo.  Holds one more round, fires a capable SD round that will be accurate, they are smaller and can still shoot shankeshot.

Or better yet, if this is for SD I'd use my Glock 19 with 16 rounds of 147 gr Gold dot.  And if I were going to be hiking in the woods I'd be taking a Blackhawk with me and keep snake shot on hand as well as rounds for some bigger stuff.

My dad has a 44 mag super balckhawk.  He reloads and has snakeshot on hand.  So absolutely no need for the Judge.

the 410 shot shell that you should use will put 3 to 5 lead balls in your target (would only recommend as a nightstand gun with .410 ammo reguarless of what kind).  pretty sure that would hurt most of the guys that i see walking around the street.  particularly if you put more than one shot down range

Except that its slightly flawed. When he had to cut off the top of the one shell to make it the right size to fit in his gun, he took out alot of the cartridge that would help build pressure and obtain maximum velocity. I want to see the test redone with Federals ammo, and correctly sized ammunition.

I thought it was a stupid idea and a solution to a non-problem.  At the ranges it is good for you ought to be able to hit a snake in the head with a single bullet.

Wouldn't any revolver with bird shot do the same to a snake?

This has to be some of the worst gun advice I've heard recently, and I hear a lot of bad gun advice.

Do a little research.  Round balls don't have the same performance, weight, penetration or accuracy as a regular bullet.  Fired from a rifled barrel round balls tend to spread very quickly.  At 30 feet you can not guarantee you'll hit what you aim at and not what you did NOT aim at.  45 LC will penetrate, will perform and will hit to point of aim if you do your job.

Slugs you say?  Compare the performance of 45 LC against a .410 shotshell, it's not even close.  45 LC is far more potent than .410 slugs.

If you're going to use a Judge for self defense against bad guys, have the sense to put 45 LC cartridges in it loaded with a decent hollow point bullet.

And the reason we shoot the bad guys isn't to "hurt them", it's to stop a deadly attack.

I understand the whole idea of buying a certain gun just for shits and giggles

It seems to me that the popularity of this gun is way out of proportion to any possible use for it

As others have said , I would rather spend the money on a good 45 colt . The many possible uses of a good 45 revolver seems more valuable than the better performance of a .410 shell over a 45 colt shotshell. I can't believe the quality of any taurus will come near to a nice S&W 45 colt

Even the .45 LC when used in a Judge is a poor performer! The loses with huge jump from case to rifling are horrible!

NRA Rifleman published test report showed a 225 Gr LSWC as well as a 250 Gr RNFP only reaching 775 fps!

Oh and those 70 Gr  000 Buck balls… 800 fps which might explain why they can’t even go through a 1 liter water jug

I think supmatch hit the nail on the head when he called it ”that well marketed piece of crap”  I’ll second that!

I am pretty generous with firearms but this one should be pulled from the market!

It is an excellent answer to a really strange question.
I wouldn't carry it for self defense nor would I hunt with it and I would dread going to war with it but it is an interesting novelty as far as guns go.
