I have a G30 that I have put about 400 rounds through. It eats FMJ ammo with no problems. On the first range session, I fed it my carry ammo which is Winchester Ranger 45 T +P. When the mag would get down to 2-3 bullets, the gun would jam. It is jamming in the same manner every time. As a new bullet is being moved forward, the hole of the HP gets jammed on the upper back portion of the chamber, and the breech face catches the shell case. Basically, the bullet is getting wedged in an upward-facing direction in the chamber in such a manner that it looks like the breech face is not grabbing the bullet like it should to push it into the chamber. So I tried to fix it by going down to regular Winchester Ranger T (no +P) today and the same thing is happening. I have to assume it is due to the HP at this point, or it is due to the slide not properly picking up the bullet to move into the chamber. The mags. are fairly new and seem to have decent springs. My question is what to change next? Heavier recoil spring? Or heavier mag. springs? Changing ammo. is not an option at this point. I like the qualities of the round I am using and would like to work the gun around the ammuntion instead of vice versa if possible. Any help would be appreciated!!! -Juice Out |
| IDPA shooter today had a similar prob. His was weak mag spring. I had chambering probs in the past with a glock (that I gave away) for the same reason. Weak mag springs. I'm not sayin' thats your problem but it sounds like it could be. If it is, it's a quick cheap fix. |
| Try a different brand of HP ammo, like federal hydra-shok. If that doesn't work try a new mag spring. If that doesn't work then you may want to try a heavier recoil spring. I have put over 5000 rounds through my G30, and it eats anything now. It took about 1000 rounds before it would digest any ammo I fed it though. Just keep shooting it. |

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. I am going to start by increasing the weight of the mag. springs. I am going to go ahead and order a heavier recoil spring at the same time and give that a shot if the new mag. springs don't work. The mags are a lot easier to load then my G21 mags, which makes me think more and more that it could be the magazines with the added kink of a HP bullet. The G21 mags also function flwalessly in the G30 when loaded with the Ranger bullets, lending more credence that the mags. are the problem. I may even hit up Glock for the mag springs, who knows but it is worth a shot. Thanks for all your help! -Juice Out |
