I owned a S&W M&P not to long ago had quite a few problems with it so i got rid of it.
I was thinking of giving it another chance because it was a great shooter when it worked properly. My choices are ither the M&P or a XDM40. I like both but im a big big person in American made products and the M&P is cheaper but the XDM is a fine firearms as well what would you get? |

Light fire pin strikes and the firing pin wouldn't reset.
The shop i bought it from sent it out to a another gun smithing shop in the area they said it was fixed when i got it back i had the same problems and i said fuck this. They then sent it to S&W and i never shot it before selling it to them. |

If I were you, I'd re-evaluate the "need" for .40. The Sig 229 and HK USP .40 are the only .40 cal guns out there worth a damn IMHO. For what it's worth, every time I look for 9mm at local gun shops and Wally World they only have .40 in stock. +1 but i got lucky i got 600 rounds of 9mm at walmart this morning and last night 6 limit a day. |

Agreed, to an extent. It certainly would be nice to be able to go shooting without depleting your stash. |

I've had an XDM for awhile now, and I like it quite a bit. It's comfortable, reliable, and has good ergonomics. It's beefy, of course, but I like the heft. I wouldn't use it as a carry weapon, but for everything else it's a fine pistol.
It's made in Croatia, though, so if you really want an American-made firearm you might want to look elsewhere. |

Very good point i love buying American. I love how the M&P was but should i get another and risk the first one i had was a lemon. I do have about 1700 rounds of .40 on hand. |

What would compare the accuracy between the two i know the XDM has a target grade barrel or something but how does it compare to the M&P? I'm never quite sure what people really mean when they ask questions like this. I don't think the XDM has a "target grade barrel" on it, but I wouldn't use a .40 as a competition target gun anyway. Further, ammo has more to do with pistol accuracy than the barrel 99 times out of a 100. Still, the pistol is well-designed and well-built, and I have no doubt that an expert marksman could get a lot out of it. I've only fired a few rounds out of the M&P pistol, but I liked it just as well as the XDM –– the only reason I went with the XDM was that the handgrip was a bit more comfortable for me and I liked the balance a bit better. The XDM is more accurate than I am at any range that matters, and the good balance of the weapon has actually improved my own accuracy a bit. But for accurate shooting, my favorite pistol is still my Browning Buckmark in 22LR. I got the XDM as a house/field gun, not a target gun. .40S&W is too damned expensive to burn up on the range. (And, frankly, I find shooting the Buckmark to be a lot more fun!) |

He didn't want to throw the live rounds in the trash so I told him I'd try them in my G35 and they worked fine. I thought maybe the firing pin channel was dirty or oiled too much. |

I've heard of this issue with the M&P40. An area that needs to be cleaned (but not excessively oiled). |
