No topics on this for the past 30 days. Either I need a paying member account for improved searching, or 'normal' calibers are rather popular (duh, they're normal. nevermind). At any rate, what do y'all think of the FN Five-Seven? vis. Is it pleasant to shoot? Concealability? Availability of accessories (primarily holsters and mags; I know non-LEO only get the 10 rounders)? To roll in another question, how is the 5.7mm round compared to standard semiauto handgun rounds? What about against animals (self defense application, not hunting)? Post away, I can't check this forum for another week, thanks. |

Not sure of what you are looking for in terms of the gun's purpose. You mention concealability, as well as self defense against animals in a non-hunting scenario. If it's mean packs of dogs, just get a basic but reliable .22, hopefully the sound will deter them and you won't have to shoot them. A .22 should be plenty concealable. A .22 is plenty pleasant to shoot if you are looking to punch paper or plink cans, etc. And it's all going to come out a whole lot cheaper. Especially the ammo. |

That round was designed for a sole purpose, to puch through light armor and still put a hole in a bad guy. Two ways to do that: 1 Raise velocity 2 lower bullet diameter. Here it is a combination of both. (not a very rapidly incapacitating round, but it will pierce armor.) |
Not the ammo that we can buy. The only ammo available to civilians is ball ammo. |
| I know alot of people like to bash the FiveSeven as nothing more then an expensive .22 Mag but I kind of like the idea. I'm sure you could hand load all the JHP stuff that you wanted once you got brass and dies together and once the AWB sunsets(God I hope it does) then the mag ban will go away and you'll be able to get hi-caps for it. On the "cool" factor I think the FiveSeven gets alot of points, I'll bet no one else on your block will have one. I think it's like the Desert Eagle, not very practical but very cool. I'd love to have a .357 Mag Desert Eagle, just can't afford it. Same with the FiveSeven, I'd like to have one but I don't have the money. Get one if you like it, after all, that's part of what owning guns is all about, having fun. If it'll make your boat float and you've got the cash, go for it and have fun. |

Well I bought two of them. I bought the first one a week ago and liked it so much I got another today. The weapon can be used for all sits. The bullet is flat at about 2,050 ft/s. If you like the 223 you will love this. I bought a tactical leg holster and will use it as such. it will punch cavlar and other such body protection at 200m. call it a 22 if you want, but if you have not shot the five seven I dont think you should say anything. With this pistol you could do some real damage to someone or something at better than 25yd. I think you should shoot one your self and you will see what Im saying for your self. |

These are the specs right out of the book. muzzle velocity 2050 effective range 55yd max range 1650yd trigger pull 4.4 to 6.6 weight 1.6 full mag length 8.2" barrel length 4.8" 9.1 right hand twist On the ammo you can get the jhp but not the fmj leos have to get the department to get the mags and the ammo and FN will only send it to the police department straight from FN. |
BINGO! FN's approach just costs too damned much. |
| One thing I don't get is the price. On one web site it said the price should be $585-$650 but they're selling for $1200-$1300, what gives? Is it the 'ol supply and demand thing or what? If they'd sell for around $600 I might thing about picking one up just for the heck of it but no way in heck can I affore $1200. Also, with the mag ban going by the wayside in Sept.(along with the AWB)the 20rnd mags should be ok for civillians to own. That would add to the pistols appeal. |

I bought mine for a hell of a lot less than $1200 to $1300 by about $500 less. The local gun store I use said $899.00 I shopped a round and got it for what I thought was a good price. If the prices come down even further than what I got mine for, well like I always say sometimes you got to pay to play. I realy do like the five seven and think all of you will too. GOOD LUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
| LESoultions, in the Handgun section on this site has em' for $795.00, now I just need to sell off my 2 40cal. Enhanced Sigma VE's and I maybe I can get one. Are loading dies and brass availble? How about loading data? All this talk about the FiveseveN makes me want one,LOL. |
Me too except that the gun is ugly as all get out. Do any other manufacturers make one or is the patent still held by FN? If so, that might be the reason for the low popularity. I started playing Splinter Cell the other day and I was like "What the F?" I didn't know what the 5.7mm ammo was until now. I thought they made it up. |
| A lot of people thought the Glock was ugly when it first came out but now it's just another "normal" looking pistol. I'd just like one because it's different, it's something that you don't see every day and it's "cutting edge". As soon as the AWB goes away in Sept. they 20 round mags should become availble for this pistol, that'd be cool. I still wonder if dies and brass are available. You'd almost have to reload for this ctg. because it for darn sure you can't run down to the local Wal-Mart and pick up a box of ammo, at least not yet. If someone would buy my Sigma on the Equiptment Exchange it'd go along way to getting me the money to pick up one of these FiveseveN pistols. |
