I am looking to get a true pocket pistol, for a back-up gun for cc. I'd like to see what options are available - I am looking hard at a Kel-tech, and the Ruger LCP, and the Berretta Bobcat.
I have already discarded the idea of a seacamp, or a NA guardian. I am looking for an auto, not a revolver. What suggestions does the hive have? Remember, real pocket pistols I can slip into any pocket, not just a 'compact' auto. |
| The new micro eagle looks promising, but as far as things you can get right now, you're probably looking at either the LCP or P3AT (unless you have really deep pockets, in which case you can also add the Rohrbaugh). Both of them can be problematic, so the question you should ask is which company will treat you better if you need to use the warranty. From what I've read (and experienced personally), Kel-Tec has better service and turn around time. |

I carry a Kel-Tec P32at as a true pocket gun. Thus far the only reliability issue I have had was
oil contamination of the powder because in the summer I was oiling it a lot to keep the damn thing from rusting from my sweat. Now I shoot the round in the chamber and the top one in the magazine every month or so (they are the most likely to get oiled) and have had about 300 trouble free rounds. |

The Sig 238 (appears to be a Colt Mustang re-incarnation) will be available this summer. Might be worth the wait to see how it stacks up.
You know.. people always promote Smith J frames in response to these queries. I understand that they are reliable, fairly well made, practical, and have good ammo choices but you guys must have some seriously big pockets to put these in the class of mouse gun. If not for the cylinder, sure. IWB holster, sure. But in your pocket? Everybody would be asking 'or are you just glad to see me?'. |

I wear Wrangler relaxed fit jeans and carry a Smith 60 in a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster as a backup to my Smith 19 K-Comp... The relaxed fit jeans, the proper pocket holster and the fact I'm only 148 pounds break the outline of the 60 completely... |

Click on this link and you will find plenty of info.

Thanks again - I stumbled across that yesterday, but many of the links on that site are dead. I happen to be reading what I can now. |

I buy my clothes around the goal of concealing my handguns. This is really the only way to effectively conceal any weapon you would actually want to have in a gunfight. this clothing in the urban world or for 'style' does sh*t to help you if you are in a fight; having a reliable, trust-worthy firearm and training will |

I like both th Bobcat and the KelTec P-9. Both have triggers that are nothing to write home about. The Kel-Tec's is consistent though heavy. With the Bobcat you have the double to single action transition to deal with. Both have been very reliable.
You might also look at a Tomcat. It's not much bigger. |
|
I've got a Beretta Tomcat - slightly wider than the Bobcat, and in a more potent caliber (if you can call .32 ACP "potent").
That being said, I can put a S&W airweight in a pocket as easily as the Tomcat, and it's actually in a respectable self defense caliber. |

The shop I went to is one of the biggest, if not the biggest in the state.
The pickings were incredibly slim. I ended up having to order an inox Bobcat, and a Pearce grip for it. I looked at Kel techs, and they did nothing for me - the ergonomics sucked for me, but they were the right size. They had no Rugers, they had a seacamp, and a bunch of other mouse guns - many advertised as 'pocket pistols' had close to the same cross-section of a full-frame, which I found surprising. Got a slip on houge grip for my primary, and a couple boxes of .40 hollowpoint for it. |

S&W Mod. 442. It can be shot through the pocket if needed. No exposed hammer. Noting to snag when you draw it. It's a true pocket pistol. Automatics might jam if you shoot while inside the pocket. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/Colt_SBR/Guns/Smith%20Wesson/IMG_2161b.jpg P.S. I own page #2.
Nary a one in the shop. Believe it or not, almost half the customers were women, hunting for pistols. My impression from talking to the guys at the counter was the smaller, lighter pistols had mostly been snatched up over the past few weeks My wife picked up a Sig 232, as she had one before, and loves that gun. She was lucky to find one in stock - got an 'as new' used, that looks like it has 1 mag put through it tops, previous owner never even used the second mag, no wearmarks on the action, and no holster marks on the gun. |

Delete. Somehow I don't think there are a lot of GQ subscriptions around here.
