Anticipating my tax return here... leaning towards a HK usp 45... maybe a Kimber.  something high cap, rugged, threaded barrel... What do you think?

Kimber Custom II.  Great pistol.  Mine runs great.

USP Tactical is a good choice. 45/high cap/threaded bbl
G21 with an aftermarket threaded bbl
S&W M&P45 - can you get threaded bbls for these yet?

I'll second the Kimber Custom II as well, but it may not fit your high cap desire.

What are you doing with it? For carry in a high cap, I would recommend the XD. I still believe the best .45 is a 1911. I like Colt and Springfield. Threaded barrel, you are probably looking at an HK. Too big for my taste.

If you have the $ - HK45
Get it from Marshall at cdnninvestments

If you want to save some $ - G21sf

Get the HK45

Get the HK or a Sig 220 Combat.

I'd say go with the HK (USP or HK45) or the S&W M&P.  The latter comes from factory with a threaded barrel in the Spec Ops model or you can order a threaded barrel from Storm Lake.

HK or Sig 220 cant go wrong  now 1911 wise you opened a whole other chapter...

I love my USP 45, other great choices are 1911's or a sig 220

SHTF weapon.  Not carry.

Funny you mentioned Marshall at CDN, I have ordered several guns thru him.

If I had the money and intended to get a 1911 I'd get an Ed Brown. link

Sig Sauer P220 is my choice for a .45 ACP pistol.

Sig 220ST and Kimber

Sounds like you should get an HK Tactical

HK usp tactical. Just got one the other day, it's my second HK and I love it better than the first. I also have a springfield 1911 Good gun, but the HK has the cap. you want.

hicap:

the HK series is great *(Tactical would be my choice)
Glock is another fine and more econmoical choice overall

just about any 1911 is out since most are single stacks; i would NOT recommend any double stacked 1911s (save maybe STI), and i would pass on kimbers and consider Springfield, Colt, SW, Dan Wesson, etc before (due to prices and QC as of late)

USP Tactical
HK45
Glock 21
Good 1911

There are no other .45's worth considering IMHO.

I just remembered the FNP45, 15+1!!!!!

For ruggedness in a SHTF scenario I'd go:
1. Glock 21
2. Sig 200
3. Springfield USGI

None of these are fancy, but damn they just work. You can find parts easily and fix them yourself if you have to.

SW M&P 45
FNP45
HK45 (way over rated IMHO)

I will never actively recommend the Block, but if it actually fits your hand, it's a good buy.

Skip the HK, over priced their customer service is well a bit snobby, cause they "have government contracts" Get a glock, xd or a 1911.

glock, xd or m&p

HK's are great guns.  I've enjoyed my USP Compact and P2000.

I just bought a new FN 45. Highest capacity of any 45 (15rds). If it's as good as all the reviews and current owners say it is I might get rid of my HK 45USP tactical. + you can shoot lead rounds through it, a no-no with the German and Austrian tupperware. Considering with casting my own bullets I can shoot .45acp for $2.50 a box.

love the HK .45s.  I have two USPs, they are identical...i like the first one so much i went back a week later and got a second as a spare.  Some don't like the fat grip, i have small hands and it still doesn't bother me.

Have not fired the FN, but love the 9 mm version and if the .45 is anything like that i would not be afraid to carry one.

XD45

I've got an XD45 Tactical and like it a whole bunch...XD's are W-A-Y underrated IMHO.

The only fault I could find with it was the trigger was a bit stiff right out of the box. they do get better after 200 - 300 rounds but I went ahead and sent mine off to Springer Precision for a trigger job.

I absolutely love my USP45. I have had it since 1998 when my dad bought it for me for a christmas present. I have in the neighborhood of 30,000-35,000 rounds through it right now without a jam or other problem. The thing is boring reliable, and plenty accurate. The double action is somewhat heavy, but consistent, but the single action is sweet.

Sig 220 the best .45 going.

I would go with a HK compact .45

Basically full size and more concealable then the full size.

I have owned both a Compact .45 and a Tactical .45, if you wan't a full size and not a compact then buy the tactical, you really can't go wrong with this as your selection.
