I have recently acquired a Colt Series 70 Mark 4 National Match Target. I truly love this gun, but I was wondering about two things. Is it possible to reduce the felt recoil and muzzle flip with minor gunsmithing techniques? And, is it possible to adjust something so that the brass doesn't come flying back and hit me in the head? I don't mean that I will mess around with this myself, necessarily, I'm just trying to see what can be done without a whole lot of work. Thanks for any suggestions.

I install recoil buffers (they must do something because they get smashed) and extended ejectors can help too, at least in my case they did.

A stronger recoil spring will lessen felt recoil but the brass will be ejected closer to the shooter, not farther away. Having the extractor tuned will change the angle the brass comes out of the gun. A beavertail grip safety will let you get a higher purchase on the grip and reduce muzzle flip. HTH
