So I just brought home my new M&P and have been fondling it for a while.  This is probably a stupid question but it will not accept loaded magazine without first locking back the slide.  Once the slide is locked back the mag can be inserted fully.  But obviously once I release the slide a round is now chambered.

Please tell me this isn't the way this thing is designed.  Why can't I simply insert the loaded mag without chambering a round like ever other semi auto out there?  What am I missing here?

spring tension is probably real tight...

break in the mags (cycle) a few times, give the springs some time to break in and see what happens

can you "slam" the magazine in and have it lock w/ the slide in battery?

yeah did you slam it? they do not design autos to not be loadable with the slide closed.

I figured it out, it is the mag spring tension.  I really have to slam it HARD to get the mag to lock in with all 10 rounds.  However once I remove one round, the mag locks in in a more typical manner.  I figure it will loosen up a bit with some use and eventually will accept the full 10 round mag a little easier.

Use your man hands with it and it will work fine. Quit flirting with it.
