i have a ruger 480 with a 71/2 inch barrel and i have a scope on it ,,,, my question is whats the effective killing range for lets say deer. thamks,,JOE

With a hand cannon like that I'd say, just as far as you can shoot 1-2" groups at.

Probably no more than 100 yards.

I agree shot placement is everything, but the kill zone on the average whitetail is 8"-10" inches.  Therefore I feel 1-2" is too high a standard.  I think the range you can shoot 4"-6" groups is more appropriate.

I was thinking about what little meat will be left, should your shot be "behind the shoulder".

At least w/ a neck shot, there'll be some left to eat. <---, supposed to be a "wink", boy the borad is MESSED up today!
