who has a drop leg holster here and whats the primary purpose of it to you? just curious.. ive got a number of IWB and OWB holsers, but no drop leg style ones. |
i'm willing to be that most people who have them use them for range use or are MIL or LEO who use them on duty |
Thats my use
|
| I have a 6005 for a SA MC Operator. I first bought it to use just with my chest rig and just started really loving it. Now I use it for hunting hogs, deer , anything really. The other holster I have for that gun is a really nice leather one from Wilson Combat so to keep from totally screwing that one up in the woods I wear my 6005 when I can and I have put many miles on it since I got it and it has held up well. The only time it ever gets in my way is riding in a vehicle. |

im thinking of getting one for range use...ive got some paddle holsters but, just something different ya know? also wouldnt be bad for SHTF sorta scenario either. should one get a specifically made one or are the generic/universal ones sufficient? i dont want to buy gear thats crap, but then again i wouldnt mind something if i can use it for multiple pistols. |

I have a Safariland 6004 that is for range use for my S&W4506R3 and love it! I like the pistol carried lower than on the belt. That and by having it on a duty belt, I also have 2 dual mag pouches as well as a cell phone pouchand can carry everything on one belt and not have to remove my pants belt when I go. That and the coolness factor too! Its the modern version of the Cowboys Gunslinger rig! Buckle the belt, strap up the 2 thigh buckles and I am go to go. |

I wear mine while on work parties at the range. I can bend and dig ditches and do all the required maintenance work while being armed. I've modified how it mounts, so it rides a little bit higher and I like that a lot more than the original mount. There are a LOT of mountain lions/cougars in them thar hills, boyz! Working alone, 1,000 yards down range could prove to be hazardous duty if attacked. Mine is a Tactical Tailor model. Drop Leg Rig at Tactical Tailor

Drop leg holsters are really only useful if somebody is wearing body armor or other gear that precludes them from carrying on the strong side hip. I own some for the occasions when I am wearing body armor and because sometimes they were the only holster I could get in time for something like a training course. |

I like the 6004 and the SpecOps vapor. The Vapor has interchangeable kydex liners for different pistols but what I really like is how close and tight to the body it holds the pistol. I have since moved to a Serpa on my chest. That works best for me. thigh holsters have become the GWOT equivalent of taping a knife upside down on LBE. the chow-hall commando's LOVE it. |
