Help me pick a 1911. Price is somewhat flexible $500-$800. I'm a RH shooter. Requirements: Full size .45 caliber Non adjustable sights No Taurus No Para Ordinance **SUGGESTIONS, PICTURES, EXPERIENCES, ALL APPRECIATED** Also, I was looking at some Smith and Wessons and was curious how they stack up against Springfield Armory, Kimber, Colt? My dealer has a few new 1911s in stock: Smith and Wesson - SW1911PD $730, or SS for $790 Springfield Armory - G.I. 45 $510 How are those prices? |

I chose Kimber Custom Stainless II... No regrets! http://www.rnettles.com/Kimber2.jpg |
Nice Kimber, and great first post! Made my pics look like crap... ![]() Well, I guess it's time to update the pics anyhow. |

Springfield Loaded or Colt Series 70. I have an SA Loaded MC Operator and I really like it... I also have a Colt Series 70 MK IV which I like (albeit differently). The great advantage to the Colt is that I personally think it is one of the better customization platforms out there. If you decide you want to add onto it or make modifications later on, you have a great base gun. If you're pretty sure at this point that you don't want to make any mods then I'd go with the SA loaded. |
Thanks, I think... And I like your pic's too! |
| well, i'm no expert on the 1911, but if you want to get a top quality .45, you should try a Wilson Combat or a Ed Brown, granted you will pay quite a bit of money, but they are well worth the cost. Nothing wrong with Kimber, their new SIS is a great .45 from what i've heard. If you want to go with either the Kimber, Colt, Springfield, or the S&W, i'd go with the Colt, but all in all its your decision, but good luck with whatever you get. |
The TLE has 30lpi checkering and night sights. $650 is a good price, new ones around me go for abour $850. Otherwise I think its the same gun as the Custom. |

I've got a Springfield 1911 GI .45 Parkerized. It's been absolutely fantastic as far as reliability goes, about 3500 rounds through it (JHP and FMJ) without hiccups (except Blazer). It had one problem, thus far, a manufacturing defect, the plunger tube wasn't properly staked. Springfield covered the shipping both ways (emailed me a fedex shipping label) and repaired it. I had their custom shop put in a match barrel, deburr it internally, throat the new barrel, tune the extractor, lower and flare the ejection port, and polish the feed ramp. It runs even better than before, feeding Blazer Brass ammo when before it wouldn't run more than 3 rounds without a jam. WWB, Rem UMC, Rem JHP (Golden Sabers and the cheap WallyWorld stuff), Hydra-Shoks, Federal HSTs. I run them all through it without problems. Only thing to make sure you do is replace the recoil spring every 2000 rounds (or so). At about 2000 rds, I started getting stovepipes every few rounds. Replaced it with a standard 16lb Wolff spring and haven't had any problems since. |

Springfield Loaded, Colt Series 70, or used Kimber without the FPS (Warrior or Series I). I currently have a Springfield GI and a Series I Kimber and enjoy both equally though the Kimber shoots better. Spend the extra cash and get something with good sights and all the bells and whistles. |
One of those 3 would be my pick too. Mine is a Kimber (Not Series 2). |

If you want a verry affordable 1911 Have a look at the Charles Daly or the Rock Island Armory. Both made in the pillipines and all Steel. |

honestly dude for a solid reliable no frills 1911 Colts are still hard to beat. Smith and Kimber are nice also. Have a look at the 1991A1 Colts.. e0A
