PT-1911 - started off to be a crappy experience with off set sites - kept rusting after every range session - runs 100% and is accurate - Learned how to detail strip 1911 80 series - finish is gone - fixed sights and soak it in oil every couple of months - I changed out the full length guide rod to a standard for ease of use int he feild and im still looking for sites i cant find the measurement for the dovetails and I havent got around to getting a caliper yet. Glock 21 - have one on order with fac night sites - my hand fits it fine - if it's reliable it's most likey going to be my main go to gun.  - and I didnt like the fact the mags cost 30 - 40 dollarsSo is there any other .45 im missing that I should take a look at other than another 1911 series pistol<which Im also going to get an SA operator eventually> |
A Springer Operator or Load will match up with your G21 nicely. If you want another, may I suggest a Bul M5? Sold by Charles Daly in your neck of the woods.

If you want a good 1911, you might as well start from scratch, that way you can assemble it with the features you want. When I wanted a 1911 for IPSC, I just got a Caspian frame cut for a ramped barrel and slide cut for Bomar sights, assembled the thing with parts from Brownell's, then sent it to Novak's for a fully ramped Kart .45 barrel. It is as close to 100% as a mechanical device gets, and very accurate, but with enough slop in the slide to frame fit that it will keep working all day for a long match. Or you can go the opposite direction and investigate revolvers. Revolvers in .45 ACP are a lot of fun. The best double action revolvers in .45 ACP are S&W N frame guns. I have a S&W 25-2 and 625-8JM. In single actions I have a couple of Ruger NMBHs in .45 Colt with .45 ACP cylinders. Adjustable sights are really nice when you want to play with different bullet weights. |

CZ97 WItness 45. CZ clone, but w/o screw in bushing. more along the CZ lines Spectre. Al Glock frame type lower w/1911 type grip/thumb safety. made before that other company came out w/theirs. uses modified witness 45 mags. PO LDA. you should at least try one if you can. i dont own one but i handle one at the shot show and the grip stippling was very rough hurt my delicate man hands just holding it |
| The PT-1911 might have done for you what it did for me-conviced me that I was happiest with .45 in the 1911. My "step-up" was a Dan Wesson Pointman7, and and I'm pretty sure the DW is more of a step in the process rather than an end point. Just time to start saving for a top of the line 1911, I guess. |
| I'm also curious about the XD, I tried it on mine, and you're right, you can't move the slide without depressing the grip saftey, A minor inconvenience at best, at least to me,anyway...I don't know where you were buying mags..I bought 2 from CDNN, S.A. factory 13rnd mags..$19.99 each..You gotta shop around...... |
After about 400 - 500rds in one range session it would wear about a .5" hole in the webbing of my hand ( which ive been slide bitten and etc before) but this was just the way the frame is formed rubbing against the webbing of my hand. Same thing happened with my FNP .40 version, yet has never occured with a glock or XD series. |
It was dated to be a 2002 model stainless model NIB with high vis night and day sights with fac houge grips. I had gone through about 3,400 rounds of: Black hills: red and Blue box Remington Umc: Yellow bulk pck - Green JHP boxes Cabelas Bulk Remanufactured: 500 rds Winchester White box from the begining I had a few ftf's every other mag even after trying several different mecgar mags, factory, and a few other aftermarket mags. I was told it needed a break in period by the smith I brought it to, after about 2,000 rounds I began swapping out springs. Then it would FTF every other round. Sometimes it wouldnt strip the round out of the mag and the slide had never locked back on the last round . After pouring all that money into it I finaly gave up with no resolution other than a large hole in my wallet and and a hatred for sigs even though my West German 226 worked flawlessy . |
The NIB HK USP .45 I picked up dated from 2006 had an internal safety inside the grip that was activated/deactivated by this lever with 2 prongs on the end that came in the box with it, which left a bad taste in my mouth since you couldnt tell it was there unless you read the book. Which out of principle I wont buy a gun with an internal safety, the only exception I ever made was the PT1911 because its contained in the hammer. As for the mags. I had no idea cdnn and other places with descent priced mags existed until I came here, so I was stuck going from shop to shop and gun shows looking for mags and never found anything cheaper than $60 for a standard 12rd .45 usp mag. |

If your gonna build a 45, a single action 45 , then go, with the best and most proven frames .. I have, several I have built on frames for ipsc compatition, STI frames for the wide body frames are the best, followed by SV, for single stack frames, EGW, Dawson, BEAR are some of the best... As far as the rest I have shot Nowlin barrels, Bar-Sto barrels and both are very good with excellent accuracy.. The best way to buy , is to buy the frame and slide fit already, it will save you a lot of time fitting them.. the rest of the parts are all about the same for fit, I use mostly STI ,Chip McCormic or parts for the rest, I have found them to have the best fit and most reliability of them all... Thx I almost forgot about the kimber that lasted a month, I only paid $795 for it sold it for 800 at a gun show
Where did you see 30-40 mags at?!? CDNN has them for 23 bucks. I bought some locally at a gunshop for 26. Why is not being able to move the slide w/o depressing the grip safety an issue? |
Damn! I'm only paying $18-20 a piece. Look around you'll find it. But back to your original question, I would pick up a quality model 1911. Such as a wilson, nighthawk, baer. I was going to get a baer but they were to tight. I ended up putting money down on a springfield professional. |
You can disable the internal lock on the USP very easily. |
