[ARCHIVED THREAD] - I want a .45! Which one? (Page 1 of 2)

To this point I have dedicated my handgun arsenal to 9mm only. I trust it and I shoot it well. I will continue to CCW 9mm, but I'm looking to get a .45 for nightstand duty and just to have a .45![]() My question is...What should I get for my first .45? I'm thinking about an HK USP, M&P or a 1911 (which one, who knows?) Anyone have any reccomendations? |
|
Well, what is your CCW weapon? My daily CCW is a Glock 19 so my nightstand gun is a Glock 21. I like the lack of external safeties and consistent trigger across weapons. I also like the 13-rd capacity and big size for a HD-gun. Now, if you are used to a lighter trigger, a 1911 sure would be a great gun to have. I just like to depend on the same gun I practice with everywhere I go including range, home, and CCW so I stick with Glocks. |
My CCW is G19 and 26. I'm looking to break out of the Glock box for my .45 |
Right...... Wilson Combat Ed Brown Les Baer RRA ...do you want me to keep going? |
Go with the M&P. Different firearm but with the same controls. |
| I love my XD 45 cant go wrong with one of these. Really you cant go wrong with any of the firearms listed thus far. Go put your hands on them all and buy the one that feels the best dont consider brand or looks just feel. Better if you could shoot them all back to back then pick though. |

Well here are my 2 cents:) I finally purchased my SA TRP in black along with 300 rnds of ball and went striaght to the range. It Is AWSOME! Nothing like shooting with steal. I own a 45xd Tactical and its not the same. I can literally feel the Price Diffrence in my hand while shooting. If you have the money, this is my recom. SA TRP |
| First off everyone need at least one 1911(I have 3). If your are going to use it for your nightstand gun you might want one with a rail so you can mount a light on it. That being said I picked up a HK45 three weeks ago and like the pistol very much. The HK45 is a little larger than the 1911. If your hands are small you might need to take that into consideration. Almost everyone I know has no trouble with the grip of a 1911. The 1911 has a 8 round mag, the HK45 has 10. Also get night sights. There are many other good .45 pistols out there. I can only comment on these two since I only own these types. |

I bought an XD45 compact and love it very much. Comes with a 10 round magazine and a 13 rounder. I put the 10 rounder in for concealed carry and when I want or need the full size grip, I simply insert the 13 rounder. Two guns in one |

I really like my tactical XD45. I agree with an earlier post; you can't go wrong with any of the pistols mentioned. Except, I have seen a few Kimber "Custom" 1911s and I wasn't impressed. If those were custom, I would hate to see their low end 1911s. YMMV. If I were you, I would pick up a G21SF to keep the same platform throughout. Thats me though. |
i know what you mean dude. atm my major leaders are: FNP45, SA MC operator 1911, HK45, Sig P220 |

I'll ask a similar question....how should I get my next steak cooked and what if any type of sauce should I put on it? Yea, you'll gets lots of answers. And heres 2 more! 1911 or XD .45. Best way to know what you want is rent or goto a range with someone who owns a pistol your interested in. |
That is why Seals use the Sig 226. Seals are without question the finest soldiers on the planet and they use Sigs....because the best use the best. Just because you got a lemon Sig does not mean they are shit, so ease up on the bashing in every other thread. Sig has proven to be some of the very best allong with Glock, HK and others. |
Please tell me you don't honestly believe that??? Are you 15? |
The obvious answer to this question is a M1911 in .38 Super. We don't need no stinkin' 11 millimeters! |
I think you missed the point, no one said Sigs are bad. One dude said they are the best, they are not and he was called on it. I have yet to view a trial or torture test that the Sig came out on top. Oh and those who try to call out internet commandos - usually are the internet commandos. When it comes to firearms, I speak from experience. How did you say it - oh ya, Nuff said The second part of your post makes sense. |

| There is no best handgun for everyone . What we do have is a pool of excellent handguns to choose from . Some try to push thier favorite as the best ever . Not so ! The best advice one can give it to go out and shoot these guns before buying . The Sig might very well be the best for that person . If I recall just receintly in the DHS pistol trials both H&K and Sig passed with flying colors . Bashing one brand because it's not your favorite will not help answer the original question that started this thread . |
No I'm not 15. I personally know several Seals and have trained with them in private schools. I'm aware of how and why the 226 is the side arm of the Seals. I also know that many Seals(at least the many I have spoken with do) prefer the 226 over the HK...size has a lot to do with it. In the end the Sig is as good as any. I would have no fear taking a Sig or Glock, HK into harms way. |

I'm getting my 1st .45, and since I don't plan on buying a lot of them (keyword: plan), i decided to buy the best i could afford. I prefer the single action over double for target shooting. The Ed Brown Executive Target is on its way. :) |

I just picked up a Glock 21SF for HomeDefense. 15+1 with the +2extension, highly accurate, low recoil, and always reliable. It beats 80% of 1911's in reliability, capacity and feeding all sorts of ammo, and is still smaller than most full-size 45's, so to me it was a no brainer. I tried the XD45 also and I did not like the huge upper part of the gun's design. |
| How about a Taurus 24/7 OSS? I just got one this weekend & there's a lot to like about it: 3 dot novak sights, visual and tactile loaded and cocked indicators, a striker firing mech. with a 2nd strike capability, a frame mounted manual ambi safety/decocker , a 5 inch barrel, Plus 12 + 1 rounds of .45 ACP goodness. I've only put 50 rounds of range ammo through it with not a single bobble, i shot it right out of the box just punched the bore with a dry patch. |
