Crap. My front sight is loose. I thought it just came far to the left, but I simply pushed it with a wooden dowel and it shifted with just pushing with my hand. Then I was able to push it with no dowel at all.

Is there any way to make it stay? I know it's going to wobble around after firing a few rounds.

Thanks.

has this sight ever been removed and put back on?

Very possible. I bought it used and so I have no idea what the original owner(s) did to it.

Is it fixable, or need to buy a new front sight?

I'm no smith but it sounds like a new one may be in order.
Some dove tailed sights just get loose if they have been removed and re-installed.
Someone will be here along with a better answer.

Ok thanks twonami. Some more info, I can pull it right out of the groove. On the underside of the sight, there is a hole but I thought there should be a screw or something to help keep it in.

I ain't no smith either.

pics?
maybe small nylon piece that helps hold it in place is missing?
I've done the sights on my Glocks, Sig and XD but I haven't had to touch my HK

I carry a USP on duty. There is no pin to hold it in place. does the dovetail looked marked up or anything?

Here are some pics:

Doesn't look marked up. If I push it far left it gets tighter, but centered and right it's loose.

Was it loose when you brought it home? Or did you have it for a while? I'm thinking they may be the wrong sights. I had that happen to me, only the opposite. They sold me a set for the fullsize when I needed the compact. They are  two different sizes. As neither your gun/sights look beat up, that may be my first check. Go to a store that has sights for fullsize and compact and compare them to yours. Either way, I would replace that sight, especially if this will be your carry gun.

You could try some loctite on it, but I would only use that until the new sights could be installed. Wouldnt depend on this for defense until you get it fixed correctly. Confidence in your weapon is everything.

It does sound like the original owner might have installed the wrong size sight

Ok thanks everyone. Sounds like I need to sort it out with the seller.

I have only had it for 3 days.

Your gunsmith should have thin shims for between sight bottom and dovetail.

Cruder method is center punch bottom of dovetail which will cause small raised area around center punch mark.

i had the same problem w/ a set on my HK USP45 rear sight; i use a tad amount of expoxy as a shim and to cement the problem down...but you may want to opt for something a little less extreme *(i did it b/c i knew that these sights would be on for a while)

you can try some red locktite or something also, but it might still not stay on

whoever installed em, shaved off a little too much of the metal on the sight while fitting i bet, which is why they are loose

Well I got a hold of original seller and he said it should be an easy fix, but did offer to let me return it. So that's good. I think I may drop a few bucks on a gunsmith to look at it and see if he could shim it or something. I am hoping that it's not the track that's the problem, and the person who put it in just took off too much.

Thanks for your replies.
