I am fixing to buy a glock 29, and the first thing I am putting on it is night sights. I wish I could look at all of the night sights on guns, and see which ones I like the best. Here are my choices. 24-7 XS Big Dot = Fast on target Trijicon Novac Tritiums = Low Profile Meoprolight = Heard that they were brighter than others Ghost ring Night Sights = Liked them on shotguns, but they might suck on handguns. I Put what I like about all of them. |
| I figured most people would go with meoprolights because I have heard they are brighter. I like the novac trijicons though bevcause of the low profile, the meoprolights because everyone says they are brighter, the XS Big Dot because of fast on target, and ghost ring because I have just always like ghost ring sights on shotguns, but they might not be worth a crap on handguns. |
I have a set of Trijicons on my CZ P-01 - green front and orange rear. It definitely helps me acquire the front sight faster in low light compared to regular iron sights or tritiums that all the same color. When the night sights on my MK9 wear out I'd like to get the same sight setup. The only drawback for me was that they were special-order, so I had to wait a month before my gunsmith got them in. |
![]() If you're going to put it in a glass case and admire it, rock out. If you're going to carry it with the intention of using it to defend your life and those of your loved ones, "looking cool" is a poor reason to choose a sight. If you like a standard sight picture, go with the Meps or standard trijicons. If you want a fast defensive sight, I like XS Big Dots. The ramped, "no snag" rear sight makes absolutely no sense - except that they "look cool". ![]() |
The reason that I like the TruGlos so much is that they are BRIGHT under any condition. In broad daylight your sight picture is EXACTLY the same as in total darkness. Three green dots. While they aren't so great for precision target shooting, they are the best combat sights I have ever seen. I was concerned early on with their durability, but I have abused the heck out of them and they seem OK. Just don't clean them with a solvent based cleaner or Simple Green. The tubes will go soft...
Amen. I've begged them several times... Shane |

i've tried, used, and would recommend the following, and list mostly in order the ones i'd consider 1st -most are built tough, smooth where needed, blocky were its suppose to be, can be installed yourself (or at least for me) and long lasting -brightest is not always best imo, but being sufficiently bright and tough is; +1 on the front sight being a little brighter than the rears (best setup i prefer are the yellow/orange dimmer rears and bright greens on fronts) i'll have to agree for practical/tactical/close defensive HG work, XS sights are about as good as they come i like em--they are a little quicker than the traditional 3 dots, but do take a little getting use to another great setup imo are the Warren Tactical night sights; they are well made, w/ a narrower option for the front sight (w/ tritiums) which are GREAT for those precise or long shots or daylight Heinies: great overall, i prefer the simplicity of the straight 8s; but i'd rather have the warren tacs b/c the heinies are a tad too wide for me Trijicons i love in general b/c of the longevity and availability for most HG models; also, they also have the better options for brighter fronts than rears Meprolights: great overall, but i dont like how they install on some models (pressed or staked), and they seem to dim a little quicker over the yrs--super bright initially though Ameri-Glo: another great setup, comparable imo to the trijicons and meps, but not as available for a lot of models Novaks: great sights again, best for 1911s imo Dawson Precisions: limited use w/ em, good precise sights w/ em, but kinda pricey imo TruGlo, well, i've only tried em on glocks, and they are ok; my biggest thing w/ em is that they are a little bulky for my tastes MMCs: i've had limited use w/ these...not the best overall imo (QC was a big thing for me) considering whats out there that works and have great CS backing em others impromptu/add on sights, such, rechargable stick ons or paint on sights, in general, imo, suck, but they are better than nothing in low light |
| I"ve always used Trijicons on my duty pistols, and in the 17 years I've been carrying them, they've never failed. No matter how many times the pistols have been in dunk tanks, no matter how many times they've been sprayed with brake cleaner, the sigts still glow. That said, I've recently put Ameriglo's on one of my pistols and am very impressed with them. The hardware was Trijicon, but the company itself is what makes the difference. The put "customer service" up to a new level. |
