The trigger made my finger hurt, like it was slapping back into it. I likes the groups i was able to shoot but the trigger just sucks ass.I think its time to sell and go for a 1911.

sigma is a good learner though.  If you can keep good groups with a sigma, you can keep good groups with about anything

SIL just bought one 249.00 after a 50.oo rebate with 2 mags included and 2 more by mail with the rebate. I thought it was a very Glockish Smith and Wesson.

It took me three before I learned.

Had one and like you my finger was starting to hurt after 25 rounds. Finished the box of ammo and after only 50 rounds, stopped at the nearest gun dealer on the way home and traded it in on a Sig 229.

I've shot Sigmas since they first came out and have NEVER had an issue with ANY of 7 I have owned at various times.

The trigger is heavier than a 1911 (that is a GOOD thing) for that design.  A light touchy trigger on a 1911 at O'dark 30 is often an disaster waiting to go off.  If you have PRACTICED Often (read that twice a month for 100 rounds each time) to build the needed muscle memory to take down the safety only just before shooting, then you are good to go.

HOWEVER, most 1911 folks take the safety off when they think they 'may' need to use the gun, not when the sights are already on target, then when that person misses a step in the dark, bumps into something in the dark, or get a "surprise"... that shooter then finds the body's automatic "clench reflex" of the hand and fingers has sent a round off when it was not intended.

Best that can happen is if it just embarrassing, could be an arrest (discharge a firearm in any city limits [even if you don't hit anybody or anything] and see what happens), could be an accidental shooting and manslaughter or worse.

The Sigma is so close to the Glock based that S&W had to pay a fee to Glock for every one sold.  Hey that's the most sincere form of flattery to copy from the best right?  I like my glocks, but find the "Luger" grip angle means that my natural point of aim is shooting 6' over the target.  I find the Sigmas grip angle and grip design to be much superior (at leas for my hands and for most of the students I have had "trial sight" with several different guns)

Most Glocks in Law Enforcement have the "NY Trigger" modification (heavier feel exactly to Prevent the problem above)

The Sigma shoots to me just like a well tuned Double Action Revolver. (gee cops couldn't get along with a gun that shoots like that for only what... nearly 80 years or so right?).  Like a Double Action Revolver, the trigger pull is consistent and smoothly builds until BANG.  The Sigma is superior to a revolver in my opinion because it happens to have the benefit of being "Revolver Simple and Safe" (No cocked hammer waiting to transfer energy to the primer), with a 16 round magazine fed capacity (I currently have a 9MM).

Mine have ALWAYS gone BANG, and I guess I have "Manly Hands", as I've fired hundreds of rounds in many sessions and never had "finger failure" afterwards.

For What you Get for what you Pay, it is a screaming deal!

Hey even made in the USA too!

I carry one in my car knowing it is pretty much weather proof and will go BANG if and when I need it too.

I'll agree with B_H on this one. I am very happy with my 9VE. The trigger gets better with use, and with all the DA revolver shooting I've done it's not a problem. For a hi-cap it fits my hand very well, points better than my Glocks, is reliable with my favored HP load and conceals nicely. Sorry you're having issues with yours.

Shoot it till you're sick of it, then use it as a truck or tackle box gun.

There is no point getting rid of it, their resale value is not measurable without very sophisticated instrumentation.

My buddy had a Sigma. He and I had a running joke that to practice, "dry fire", you could just tie a string around a cinderblock and practice lifting it with your finger in a trigger shooting motion.

In all fairness the gun really was reliable, but damn did it have a heavy trigger.

I've never shot a Sigma, but the low price, current rebate, and S&W customer service have got me seriously thinking about buying one.

I can't believe nobody has mentione how easy it is to take several pounds off the trigger pull.

Here's a thread in GlockTalk, and near the bottom of the page, on page 1, you'll see a Word document that even has pictures.
Again, I've never done this trigger job, but it looks like it's so easy, even I could do it.

Glock talk Sigma thread- 5 minute trigger job link

Why not try the trigger job first, then if you still don't like it, sell it?

I had the Sigma 40F when they were first introduced as I used to be a Big S&W fan...

The dustcover split lengthwise after about 300-rounds.  I sent it abck to S&W and they replaced it but I sold it unfired and bought my first Glock.  Sure not a gun I would want to trust my life with.

I love my Sigma(s).  I got a SW40F in 94 when they first cam out.  Loved it!  I still have that one and it has over 12k trouble free rounds through it.  Last year I purchased a 40VE for about $250.  Now I'll admit the trigger isn't as good as some of my other pistols, but after years of shooting it, I've gotten used to it.  YMMV.

I regret getting the one I had... what a total inaccurate, unreliable, POS Jam-o-matic.

It came new from the factory with a broken firing pin, but S&W did fix it. They couldn't fix it's SUCK factor though.

I did resell it for near the same price I paid though.

I got my last Sigma because I couldn't get a reliable 1911 and I didn't want a Glock.  Come to find out, the Sigma was an unreliable POS too when I ran it hard.  Traded on a Glock 22, never looked back.  The only problem I have with Glocks is that they fuggin multiply

Sigma?

Smegma?

Stigma?

My brother bought that POS when it came out.  Should have bought a Glock.

That being said, the M&P is a whole different story.  Have shot those a bunch.  Ordered one on Friday - AND the $50 rebate +2 mags is still going. Nothing wrong with an M&P or with S&W in general (even if they did make a lemon of a gun in the stigma).

My first handgun was a SW40VE. Bought it new at a gun show in '00. Served me well for four years til I traded with $ for a P99. Now the WALTHER is a kick-ass pistol. If you could change everything you hate about a Glock, you would end up with a P99.headbang.gif

The only thing I hate about the Glock is that every time I turn around, I've bought another one.
