| Which one is better, I have heard the FNP is just as good but alittle bit cheaper. Personally, I think FN is a better arms design and producer than HK. |
The HK has a proven track record of being incredibly accurate, reliable and durable. Even if the FN could match the HK in terms of performance, it has alot to prove before it should even be mentioned in the same sentence. The FNP is a decent firearm, but the USP is an excellent firearm. |
+1 i'll have to agree...i've handled, shot, and./or owned both--both are very reliable, durable, and effective platforms from good, quality manfs. h/w, imo, HK has the edge w/ more long-standing name, QC, and basis for HGs; FN, h/w, has the general long-standing name in firearms production however, just not necessarily in the HG dept |
FN has been making semi-auto handguns longer than any other company in the world. They made handguns for 50 years before HK even existed. I'd bet $100 that FN has made more than 10 times as many handguns as HK. Now that said, the FNP45 is definitely an unproven design and I would go with the USP.

Decide for yourself: HK Specs. FNP Specs. On paper, I'd have to say the FNP for the following reasons: 1. Ammo capacity 2. Price 3. Size (slightly bigger, bigger=better for offensive type weapon IMO) 3. Has all features or equivelent that USP has (backstrap, decocker, external safety, ambidextrous controls....etc.) Also, the FNP hasn't been battle tested, or prooved itself in any way like the HK has. For some, that is all that matters. MY FINAL ANSWER WOULD BE THE HK. IF YOU DONT ACCOUNT FOR PRICE. |
He is comparing it between the USP .45 and the FNP45, not the HK45 and FNP45. The HK Specs you have listed are for the HK45. |

I dislike HK's lack of commitment to do business with the American commercial sales sector, especially with their long arms. I've handled and put a few rounds down with the FNP, and it's a fine pistol to be sure, you wouldn't waste your money buying one. That being said, I have not had a problem getting parts or services from them, and my USP is bar-none my favorite, highest quality, tough as nails go-to sidearm. If I was asked to pick one pistol that I had to rely my life upon straight out of the box from the factory, the USP would be it, with Glock a very close second (mainly because I find the USP more comfortable). I'd say if the USP fits you well, go with that. If the FNP feels significantly better in your hands, I don't think many would look down on you except for the most die hard fanboys. |
+1 also dislike HKs business practices and snobbery towards civi buyers. I'd go FNP or perhaps and XD-Tactical or Glock. |
Shop around. 650-700 NIB isn't really hard to find. |
How exactly are they supposed to sell us longarms when they don't have a US factory? If I didn't have a contract with the gov't, I would be very leary about setting up a factory to produce rifles for civilians who may not be able to purchase them in 08 too, especially after what happened in 94. Why would a company go out of their way to produce guns here when our gov't fucked them in the previous decade? Lucky for us they decided to say fuck it and build a factory here anyways, where they'll be producing the 416 (and its civilian equivalent) and the HK45 series. But yeah...their commitment really sucks. |
+1 That pretty much sums it up. |
|
Shrug, commitment is nothing without results. There has been talk of an HK factory here for many years, though it's always fallen through for one reason or another. It wasn't fair of me to solely place the blame on HK's shoulders, which I did not intend to do. And maybe it is a risky venture for them to open up shop over here. Though I see plenty of other companies doing well in the civilian longarm market. And I don't see much competition from HK on the shelf. Maybe they are doing their best, and they're almost there. Though "almost" only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades, and losers always whine about their best. I love my HK firearms, but it's time they put up or shut up, and my view won't change until I can go down to the local funshop and plunk down some cash for a civi 416. |
I think you misread - it is buy 4 of the FNP/FiveSeven and get an FNP45. |
Setting up a factory takes time, and its already confirmed that its happening. Hell, its almost ready afaik. The reason it fell short before was because of the US Gov't getting balls deep into HK firearms (XM8 for example) then pulling the plug. The plants have been in the works solely to do US contract work. Up until recently, there was no plans of the US factory being built to provide civvies with guns. That is a new development, so I'm just happy that they said "what the hell why not", and are going to do it regardless of a contract. The 416 seems to be picking up steam with USSOCOM, so that probably helped. Other companies that are doing well in the long arm market are either US companies, or already had factories from existing gov't contracts....like FN with their M16A4 contract. No foreign company has come over here to make guns for us since the import ban without a contract to back them up. HK will be the first for that, so I'm not gonna complain. |
Last time I was in Bass Pro for example the FNP series were <$420 USP series are minimum $750.....just my experience. Just checked budsgunshop.com and it's only a $200 difference, but I'm sure after a little bit the FNPs price will drop and the USP will remain the same. |
Bass Pro is a really lousy place to compare any pricing, ever. Also, FNP 9's and .40's will be cheaper than the .45, so once again, not a real good comparison. |

USP hands down. I wasn't that impressed with the FN pistols I handled, that being said, I haven't shot the FNP45 yet. On the other hand, my USP45 is the most accurate pistol I have and I've never had a problem with any HK products. People complain about price, but I'm more than happy to pay an extra $200 for an HK. |
Colt.. cough cough, been doing it longer.. how bout a 1911?
|
I've yet to see one under $500 w/o Night sites. Please let us know where you can get one for $450 w/ NS. |
|
I just saw an FNP45 for $639 today. I still believe FN did a lot of things right with the FNP series, but I am NOT taking the arrows on this one. They are going to have to shake out for at least a couple more years, and add a manual safety before I will get on board. |
Because the 1911 was the first semi-auto handgun ever, right? ![]() FN introduced the first Browning action semiauto handgun in 1899, one year before Colt introduced its first semiauto. |

i like both pistols. i've wanted a usp tactical 45 for a long time. that said, i like that fnp45. i'm going to wait till someone test it with like 20,000 rounds or something like the sig p220 before i pass final judgement, but i love the fact that it is fully ambidxterous(excuse my spelling). that is great if your a lefty or can shoot with either hand (like me). some usp pistols arn't fully ambidexterous. also, 14 rounds is a lot of 45 acp. i'm comfortable with 8 myself, but 14 is awesome. i want to go check both out asap... all else said, be your own guide, different strokes for different folks. w |

FNP's have had some very serious/troubling issues, which are not known to be resolved in the FNP45. The FNP had potential, but it also had some serious design flaws. IMO, its a slightly better FN49...which was Sigma'esque. Maybe the issues with the 9/.357/.40 FNP's have been resolved with the .45? Then again, maybe they haven't? After owning an FNP, I would personally wait a year or two before even considering it. FN USA doesn't have the handgun design/production experience of HK, not even close. FN has built more licensed handguns than it has designed. FN Mfg doesn't get any credit associated with the HiPower IMO. I think you could argue that with the FN49 and now the FNP, that FN Mfg is a somewhat inexperiences/shoddy handgun manufacture. I have owned several H&K USP .45's in various configurations. Stellar weapons, unfortunatly I only have regular people-sized hands, not those of a gorilla and I could never get used to them. If you have the hands for it, it would be really hard to beat a USP .45fV.1 for a general duty SD pistol. The reliability/durability/accuracy are all superior, but IMO-USP triggers suck. Were I to buy another HK, it would be an LEM and only if I could get the 4.5lb trigger pull. The last time I bought a USP .45fV.1 I paid 550.00 for a used one that was maybe 1 year old and probably never shot. There are several used USP .45's at a local store in the 500.00's. If you can afford it the HK45, get one of those. Much better in many aspects IMO, especially grip size. With the P30 and HK45 I don't understand why someone would spend 700.00 on a new USP9 or .45.... I vowed to never buy a .45 ACP again, until I purchased my G21SF. I will be getting a G30SF as soon as I get the oppertunity. G21's were always appealing to me, but they were too big also. The G21SF makes all the difference, its still fat but entirely comfortable and usable. Its about as big as my hands can handle, but then again-I want it to feel like a .45, not a 9x19. I would reccomend a G21SF, XD45 or M&P .45 over the FN or USP. I don't really like XD's, but the .45 is one of the best guns in the caliber/price range. You would have all you ever need in a SD handgun with a XD45. |

Internet fanbois are sooooo predictable. Especially if the weapon is manufactured in Germany or Austria. hinking.gif |
