I have one of their 1911s, it is a good little gun.  I bought it used and you can tell it has seen plenty of use, but it still works perfectly.  It will not feed HP consistently.  I had a slide stop wear out and it stopped locking back on an empty mag., bought a wilson slide stop and it didn't want to work in my gun.  So I called CD and they sent me a new one for like 6 bucks and it has been perfect ever since.  Hope that helps you a little bit.

Every single Daly handgun I've ever seen at the range had multiple issues. Personally, you couldn't give me one.

Resale value drops on these like a safe dropped off of a boat, as well.

I am sure you could get your $299 out of the Hi power if you sell.

Considering it is not so hard to find a real Mk. II or III for $500, it'd have to be a very, very low price to make me look twice.

From what I understand, most of the parts are made by FEG, so they should be dimensionally identical to FN parts. That being said, CD's quality has not been the greatest in the past.

My most recent BHP purchase was a Mk. II in hard chrome, with 4 mags, a C&S commander-style hammer, sear, wide trigger, and extended safety, for $550.

This is pulled off another site:

The current Charles Daly Hi Powers do indeed use FEG frames and slides.  CD is very coy about the lineage of their HiPower parts and have hinted recently that all the HiPower parts are US made.  I don’t buy that claim because no manufacturer in the US of HiPower frames or slides has popped up (in the same way that Caspian makes the frames and slides for many high end US 1911 producers).  The CD HiPower frames are cast (very obviously so) and the slides may be as well.  I’ve had the opportunity to disassemble (but not shoot) two recent CD HiPowers.  Here’s the good and bad news:

Good news:  Both pistols were remarkably well finished, were tightly fitted and had surprisingly good triggers (even with the ‘magazine disconnect’ in place).  In fact, the stock triggers were better than the stock trigger on my FN HiPower.  Owners report that they are generally reliable and accurate.

Bad news: There are regular (but admittedly not too frequent) reports of customers having serious issues with the CD HiPowers.  Goofy things like sights falling off, poorly fitted parts, etc.  A bright note here is that CD customer service seems to actually take an interest in customer issues and works to resolve them.

I think a real issue with the CD HiPowers is that nobody has taken it upon themselves to test one to failure to see what kind of service life they have.  Who knows, they may be high round count guns!  The world desperately needs an alternate source of high quality HiPowers.  Browning’s prices are just too high for what you get (Springfield, are you listening?)

I own an FEG HiPower imported by KBI (in today’s world KBI = Charles Daley).  I bought it used at a steal price last year.  The exterior finish is very, very nice.  Internally it is rough, particularly the frame.  There are obvious casting seams on many of the small parts (like the hammer).  However… it’s a shooter!  Every bit as accurate and reliable as my FN HiPower.  It is a low round count pistol (perhaps only 400 or so), so it doesn’t get a lot of use.  Maybe I need to start using it more.  Hmmm…

This matches my own personal experiences well.

I have one and I like it. It has probably shot about 1 K rounds of WWB ball and 100+ of winchester HP s without any problems. I bought it from somebody who had had the mag disconnect removed and a trigger job done and it shoots great. It is sitting in my nightstand right now. The only issue I can think it has is that it seems to get rust specks on it which considering how dry it is here is kind of Has anybody ever tried a CD HP with a ciener conversion? I have been thinking about getting one of those.

Personally, I'm distracted with the idea of springfield making browning hipowers.

If anyone wants a Charles Daly HP (or an FEG for that matter) better act now, because FEG quit making them within a month or two ago...

I looked at one of these at the shop this afternoon when I stopped by to pick up another Glock. They look halfway decent and seem to resemble the original Hi Power more so than they do the FEG version. I am not sure if these use the same frames and slides as the FEG or not but some of the features are definitely different than the FEG (the safety, the grips and the finish). If they function as well as the FEG Hi-Power, they would be well worth the asking price they are going for. I've had two of the FEGs and both functioned flawlessly, although they didn't seem anywhere near as nice in terms of fit and finish as the FN/Brownings I've handled.

But somehow, the "Charles Daly" name scares me away.

Frame and slide is/was made in USA.  By who I have no idea.  Rest of the parts were FEG.

I've looked at them a time or two.  The original price tag was not that attractive.   For a low cost HP, I'd probably go with FEG.

Someone posted farther up that the world needs a new sorce of highpowers, then said "springield, are you listening? "
