This is for those of you who have owned and shot them both a fair amount. How do they compare to eachother? Strengths? weaknesses? Compare and constrast them if you can...just like high school.![]() I like the Sig226 but my oldest boy likes the 92. I have 3 boys and plan to get 4 new pistols, one for each of us. They will all be the same type. A guy thing. I prefer the Hi Power/1911/HK USP V1 style and have not spent any time with these type of DA/SA w/ a decocker type of handgun. So I welcome all the input I can get. Thanks! |

I think they're both good. Beretta wins for price, mag prices, and historical significance. SIGs have an edge on crispness of SA trigger pull, and I prefer the feel of their grip a bit more than the Beretta, but I feel they're not quite as "sweat proof" and moisture proof as the Beretta, just based on posts here. |
I'd have to go exactly the opposite for trigger pull. My beretta has a very crisp letoff, where my old sig felt like a sponge. There was way too much pre-travel, and too much creep once you got past the pre-travel. Sigs also seem to have a longer reset. |
|
I like both, I prefer the Beretta because I like manual safeties. They are both extremely reliable and the Beretta is one of the most accurate service handguns available. Price is definitely a Beretta advantage, $500 vs $700-$750 for the Sig. But you'd be equally happy with either one. |

I've had both and prefer the Beretta. I did not care for the high bore axis of the 226 even though it was very accurate. I've owned 2 Berettas and they have shot more accurately for me than any other handgun I've ever fired. The reliability was the same with both the 92FS and the 226. Both performed flawlessly with 0 malfuntions in hundreds of rounds with both guns. As far as asthetics go, the Beretta is a very sexy pistol, no other handgun "does it" for me like the 92FS especially with straight dust covers and all steel parts. The 226 while a fine pistol is a homely brute. |
Beretta has replaced some steel parts with plastic, they call it an improvement, I call it going cheep. Sig was once 100% no questions asked, now the boards are full of complaints. Seems both companies are producing products of less quality while relying on their previous reputations to bolster sales. Just My .02 |
Like everything from boots to trucks

I have to agree with marksman, I have both and am considering selling my Sig P226, the trigger on my 92FS is much better. also the beavertail on the 226 rubs my thumb knockle too much. |
|
Hey, only one of them counts because I don't have team membership No searchee more than 30 days back for me. The one I can find on a search is a decent thread but there is too much Glock love. J/K The glock is fine.I really wanted to compare and contrast the 226 and the 92. Looks like you prefer the sig? |
oh, sorry about that ![]() yea, for me, i prefer the P226 just a little more over the M9/B92--i dont like the heavy DA trigger on the berettas or the slide mounted safety; the Sig's trigger and setup just feels better for me h/w, they are BOTH great HGs, very ergonomical, and the beretta holds the edge in price of the gun and mags and i'll have to agree, the older Italian berettas and german Sigs are better than the US made ones (cosmetically, machining wise, parts, etc)--its not something that bothers or even is recognized by most, but i notice the little things like that... |
Should be noted though that nobody that I have seen has reported any problems with Beretta's price cut parts. I too am not a fan of the fact that they started to switch over, but I have yet to see any issues regarding the parts. |
|
IMO the P226 is a far superior gun. Better ergos, better trigger, less complaints about issues. The only issues with the newer Sigs that I'm aware of on the internal extractor models, are improperly tensioned extractors. P226 should have the external extractor unless they changed it. My Sigs have always been far more accurate than the two Berettas I used to own. That said, I'm not sure how the Berettas get the rap they do on the 'net, pretty good guns. Slides move like they're on bearings. |
also brownells has the proper metal parts to change out the plastic over thin aluminum parts, Mine was a pre trigger but it had a plastic guide rod which I switched out as soon as I spotted it in brownells latest catalog. |
+1 and I have my doubts about the old ones since mine is a W. german model and still sucks. |
|
I actually prefer the 92 trigger (both in single and double) BUT the slide mounted saftey/decocker kills it for me. really really great shooting gun.....but......slide mounted saftey I might prefer the 92 if it had a sig style decocker. For me, I need to be able to grab the slide in a way the 92 just doesn't let me. |

I disagree with some previous posters. The 92FS is as good now as ever. The plastic parts work great and don't wear out. A new 92FS or M9 can be had for $450, a bargain for what you get. A new Sig 226 is an overpriced turd. They have gone steadily down hill in quality in the last five years, while going up in price. They seem to mainly be riding on the reputation of the old 100% German guns. |

J/K The glock is fine.
