I have a lead on a (99%) 4" adjustable sighted 686.  What's the blue book (or other book of it's type) value on one?  The guy's asking price is high at $499.  Yeah, it's in great shape, but it's still used.  Any thoughts/

Thanks,
Rich

That is WAY overpriced IMHO. Around here 686's in great condition sell in the $325-$350 range. If I were you I would look around and see if I could find a better deal. Of course location can affect price, but still, that's steep for a used revolver regardless of location.

I got mine (4" bbl, adj. sights) at a pawnshop for $300 out the door, and it was (and still is) in excellent condition. At the EXPENSIVE places here in Phoenix they for $450-$480 BRAND NEW. Talk him down or go look somewhere else. BUT-get one. I love mine and it's VERY accurate.(And let's face it-it's a bitchin' lookin' handgun-the only thing that trumps it, IMHO, is the Python)

Yeah,
I just love the looks of it.  I also saw a 3" 686.  One of the government contract over-runs.  That thing is sweeeeet!

If he's not raping you on the price, I'd go with the 3" model due to its rariety.

And yes, $499 for a used 686 is WAY too much.

Look at KY Imports web site, they have lots of used S&Ws for sale, $150 & up.

I just bought my 686-6" with 7 round cylinder and adj. sights back in March for $489 brand new.  With tax and everything, it was $525 out the door.

Lord that makes the one I bought in 85 or 86 for $285 look all that much better. Sweet shooter all right but I wish I still had the Ruger Security Six I sold to buy it. I sold it to a buddy on the condition that if he ever got rid of it he would sell it back to me. He got a divorce and his wife got possession of my gun! Damn thing was she could outshoot both of us with it.
