Will a dab of sight paint on the front blade adversely affect bluing, or is it benign?

I've used a dab of both sight paint and plain old modeling white paint on various front sights. It doesn't *appear* to have affected anything, i.e. blueing (other than improving the sight contrast).

As my eyes have aged it gets harder for me to pick out that front sight against a black target. The paint seems to help.

I don't know of any paint that will damage bluing.

Popular paints for sights are Testor's model paints, which come in about any color imaginable, are cheap, easy to find, and come in tiny bottles.
Another product is appliance paint.  This too comes in small bottles, and dry to a very hard finish.

To remove paint from sights, use lacquer thinner or Acetone with a toothbrush.  This too does NO HARM to bluing.

Before applying paint, use lacquer thinner to degrease the area the paint going on, then after the paint is TOTALLY DRY, apply a coat of lube to prevent rust.

If you want a red sight, first apply a coat of gloss White paint and allow to dry completely.
Then apply a coat of Testor's Fluorescent Red.  The White under coat makes the Fluorescent Red "glow" brighter.

In all cases, MIX the paint thoroughly.  It settles and must be actually mixed with a small screwdriver or homemade stir stick.  Shaking the bottle won't do it.

Do you really use that gun ?
I have bluing wear off from holster wear . I use black fingernail polish. Thanks to goth chicks it is easy to find.
Or you can just use a re blue dip every now and then applied with a q tip.Even the alum black works good.

The gun is somebody's first/only and given the novelty, I have no idea how he will take to it. So, this might be a temporary main platform until he graduates to something more ideal, or it might be the only thing he has for years to come. As it stands, he has great difficulty picking up the front sight. I looked into CTGs but they don't make them for Colt revolvers, and the retro-fitted night sights are expensive, not to mention the hassle of shipping, waiting, and receiving to a guy who doesn't tolerate hassles of any kind. So, I figured the sight paint might be the only fix that will work to some extent.

I've always wanted to try it, but never have yet.  I may just do it thanks to this thread.  I may try it on and AR too.
