| Hi , all I just picked up a 225 for $349 out the door . It came with 2 mags , a leather holster and hard case . I got it home and disassembled it . I re-blued the slide and cleaned and lubed it . How did I do on price ? Is it a reliable piece ? Where can I get spare mags ? maxx |

You did okay. You neither got a steal nor did you get raped. Sometimes that's all one can hope for in a buy. I don't begrudge a dealer making a few $$$$, otherwise they'll not be there when I want/need something else. As for mags, the usual suspects, I would presume: CDNN, Mec-Gar, etc. My .o2

OK guys, My four from SOG came in today and they look great! They came to $60.84 delivered ($12.95 ea plus credit card fee + S/H) Here are pictures. The first picure is right out of the box as they came. The second picture is after I removed dirt, stickers, added Oxpho blue to wear spots and cleaned them up (as I like my mags very clean!) One even has the official Sig-Sauer logo! http://webpages.charter.net/ronjon/SOG%20P6%20Mags%20before%20cleanup%20a.JPG http://webpages.charter.net/ronjon/SOG%20P6%20Mags%20after%20cleanup%20a.JPG Ron |

You actually probably purchased the P6 which is different from the P225. I bought mine for $299 shipped (member discount) from Military Gun Supply which is what they are selling them for right now. Plus my dealer transfer of $15 I paid $314 for mine. So you did okay. As others have mentioned CDNN is a good place for magazines. |
Dace, ?? to your last sentence - The CDNN price is nearly twice the price each as SOG's for P6/225 mags ($60.84 for four, delivered). Yes, I have a P6, which I did NOT buy from SOG. I bought it from my local Gander Mtn. for $285 +Tx , which included blue box, 2 mags, holster, manual (in German), a gun sock, trigger lock, GM gun club membership, 13 month warranty, + $25 extra trade in value voucher. I got to hand-pick it myself from about eight they had in stock! Here's a pix of mine: http://webpages.charter.net/ronjon/Sig%20Sauers%20b.JPG The difference between the P6 (Military and police version) and the P225 (civilian version) is miniscule. Ron |
The P225 is my favorite pistol; I bought my first one in the late 80s, and still carry one to this day. You can see some of the differences in Ron's picture (aside from the markings). The P6: 1) Has a different hammer- do you know why? 2) Grips do not cover the hammer stop pin (small pin under the hammer at the rear-most point of the frame) newer grips on P225 extended to cover this. 3) Most notably, the slide is more rounded; see the way it curves down to the roll pins in the slide? The P225 cocking serrations/slide sides extend about another 1/8". 4) Sights... some P6s had sights with a white dot front, and a white bar rear similar to the P225s, but most did not. Just some observations; changes obviously were made over the years, so differnces can depend on the year of manufacture. Still, the current batch of P6s is perhaps one of the best deals in a handgun right now (for those that can get past the 8round single stack 9mm issue). |
The P6 barrel feed ramp and the P225 barrel feed ramp are not the same. This is why the P6 will not feed hollow points reliably (yes there are a few out there that do, bu the majority dont). Some P6s will come with the later P225 barrel, however most do not. The P225s barrel feed ramp was revamped to help it feed hollow points reliably. This has been documented at many places. So the differences really arent "miniscule." Remember that the P6, the pistol adopted by the West German police, was introduced in the early seventies while the P225 was introduced in the early 80s. It appears the P6 is what is being currently imported based on its characteristics. I was saying CDNN usually has good deals on magazines, not that they are the cheapest. It does look like SOG has them cheaper. I am not knocking the P6 at all, it is probably one of the best buys for a handgun right now. But people shouldn't confuse the P6 with the P225. |
Both my (2/82 dated) and my son's (3/83 dated) P6s fired hollow points (as well as FMJs) all day long last Saturday with nary a hiccup whatsoever (FWIW). Ron |
Ya ya, there is always someone with a "well mine has been just fine yada yada yada." As I said before, its been well documented that the P6 prior to about 82 has the old style barrel feed ramps that will not feed hollow points reliably. I cant find the thread but there are pictures showing the differences in barrels. |
Dace, I've seen those pictures. So don't bother to re-locate them to show to me. Neither of the two shown are exactly like mine or my son's barrels. Just enjoy your P225 and we'll enjoy our P6s - No need for any more of the defensive remarks. OK? Ron (out). |
None except: no shipping charge (But did have sales tax), no transfer fee, extra mag included, manual (in German), a gun sock, trigger lock, GM gun club membership, 13 month warranty, + $25 extra trade in value voucher. And I got to hand-pick it myself from about eight they had in stock! |
congrats on a great HG
