I have a Model 19 that my father gave to me when I graduated from high school. I like the pistol but hate the short 2½ inch barrel. Where could I get a replacement barrel and a smith to rebarrel it, does Smith and Wesson do this kind of work?

Thanks, Monte.

There are, but I have to mention this...

If you add how much it would cost to ship your pistol off to a reputable smith for rebarreling services and what it would compomise to the value of your Smith in its original condition, you just bought yourself a used Smith 17, 65, or 66 in fair condition.

My advice, leave it alone and grab yourself another smith with the savings.

I think you're right.

Darn, now I need to buy another gun.

Keep the revolver your dad gave you AS-IS There are bazillions of good quality used S&W K frames out there. You can buy a nice 4" or 6" M19 or M66 or M586 or M686, for very reasonable prices and can keep your heirloom intact.

2 1/2 19s are a somewhat rare and desirable piece, particularly if it's pinned and recessed. Leave a great gun as is and buy another!

+1

Leave yours alone.  Short barreled M19's are rare and hard to find.

4" K-frame Smiths are literally a dime a dozen.  Millions of them are out there.  It should be easy to pick one up.

Dude.

Make your mods like you want. Just look at what SGB has done to some 780's NM 1911's.

Any collector value on any firearm I own I'll never see as I'll be in the ground.

How much would you sell it for?
