I would like to buy a compact in 9mm. Which is a better pistol between the S&W M&P, or the Springfield XD? Any other suggestions would be great, I want to stay in that price range though. It will be shot often, no safe queen. Are there any good sub-compacts that are comparable with the accuracy of regular compacts? Thanks for the help.

You seem to want to stick to polymer guns which is fine.  In the sub-$600 range you have a lot of choices.

Glock makes the 26 and 27 in 9mm and .40sw respectively.  If you are going to put the finger extension on the mag then you might as well get the 19 or 23 as the grip will be that size.

There is also the Beretta PX4 subcompact coming out.  I would wait another year before picking one up as they are not the same as the full size version and I would give it a year to get the bugs worked out.

CZ has the 2075 Rami-P coming out.  It is the same as the Rami but just polymer.  Wait for the second model year though.

KelTec has the PF9 but it has had some teething pains.  Their older and fatter P11 is good but nothing super.

Kahr's P9, CW9, and PM9 are all excellent.  They carry extremely well.  The CW is the same size as the P9 but just utilizes some cheaper manufacturing processes.

If a BUG type is what you want then the Kahrs are infinitely better than the KelTecs.  But if you want something a little larger than that, you can't go wrong with anything mentioned so far.  Personally I would take the XD last out of the whole list with the Glock being just above that.  But again that is just me.  Of your original two, the M&P is definitely the better choice.

I love my Glock 27.  I actually shoot it better than my Glock 22 in offhand shooting.  It just points so nice!

Of your two choices, I'd take the XD.. but It's still heavier than the Glock 26 - by a lot too.. 26oz vs 20 oz.  A fully loaded Glock 26 weighs the same as an empty XD sub compact.  The barrel length on the XD is only 3", The Glock's is 3.5".. but the guns are almost exactly the same length (within .03" inches).  Glock is about .5" shorter.

Ditto and I do not like most subcompact pistols. Also I looked at a singlestack KelTech that had a very smooth trigger which I was suprised about because the trigger on my friends pistol stinks.

I have a S&W M&P 9C. I really like it, grips size is adjustable. The gun points and shoots real well and is extremely accurate. Mine has been 100% reliable so far with about 800 rounds through it.

My favorites:

Glock 26
Kahr K9
Springfield XD9 subcompact

In that order.  The Springfield is a tad bulkier than the other two pieces, or at least it feels heavier/bulkier (too lazy to look up the stats).

don't rule out the taurus pt-111.

forum friend mrnuke7571 has one and it's a great little gun.

the heinie sights take a little getting used to. once you do, it's a sweet pistol.

A subcompact xd is basically the same size as a Glock 19 because of the large slide on the XD. I sold my little xd not long after I got it.

I've got a Steyr S9A1. Far better than the others listed (shot Glock, Springer, Kahr, S&W), but very hard to find.

I have owned a Glock 26 for 10 years and like it a lot.  I shot it side by side with a Springfield XD9 subcompact and while I like the XD and would buy one if a bargain came up, I prefer the Glock to the XD.

The XD is chunky and harder to conceal.  It also has a relatively high bore axis and the muzzle flip is greater than in the Glock.

I recently purchased an XD9 subcompact bitone and I love it. I was very leary of buying a subcompact pistol, but after shooting it, I have no regrets. It is very accurate and a joy to shoot. My vote goes for an XD subcompact.

Glock 26/27.  My stock 27 without finger extensions is surprisingly accurate.  10 rounds of .40 S&W that is so comfortable in an IWB that I forget I'm wearing it.  I never worry about rust either.

I shoot the Sig 239 better than either.  I let my XD go because it was the only 9mm pistol I owned.  I'll get another sometime.

I have an XD in 40cal in subcompact.  I love it.  Carry it everyday.  So I'm sure the 9mm is just as great.

Love the XD.  Love the XD.
