I'm a DA/SA kind of guy and it is really hard these days to find DA  pistols with safeties.  Does this gun function like an HK USP V1 where the safety de-cocks down as well as stays engaged in the 'up' position?

I believe it is a decocker only, at least for the DA/SA model.

They do offer a SAO model. :)

The Browning Pro 9/40 functions like this.  It is about $100 more than the FNP 9 and comes with 2 magazines (the FNP comes with three).
I have a FNP 9 DA/SA and a FNP 9m SAO.  I got both of them for about what a Sig or HK cost.

I owned one of the FNP 9's with the S/S slide. It was a damn good shooter and as accurate as my BHP.  I sold it only to help finance another purchase. Eventually, I will get another one.
Buy one. You won't be sorry.

I own an FN FNP9M 9mm and no, it does not have the third position safety. It has a decocker only.

Personally, I would not want a safety on the decock lever anyway. three position Safe/fire/decock levers, make it far to easy to decock the pistol while releasing the safety under stress.

The FNP's are hands down the best defensive handgun value for the money right now. At $350.00 to $375.00 a pop, depending on the model they are the sleeper buy of the decade. It's the poor mans Sig 226R or 229R.

I've had the FNP-40 for a while now. Great shooter - groups very well, good ergonomics and eats everything I feed it. Can't think of anything not to like about it.
IMHO, Probably one of the best-kept secrets on the market for the money.
Now I'm considering the FNP 9m

I don't own one, but have dyr fired a few, and the trigger is verys weet.

COme check out the Fn Forum, though. Lots of FNP owners there:
