| Do they still go by this name or have they changed? I found a hp25 for a good price was wondering if its the newest one they make. |
| The HP25 is OK except during firing the hammer bites the heck out of the web of skin between the thumb and forefinger . It is probably one of the better el cheapo .25s out there if you have to have that caliber for cheap. They have a lifetime warranty. Believe it's the same maker who did the Raven. |

this thread is a joke right? You can't seriously be asking because you want something like that right? First off lets start with the caliber alone. .25 acp is one notch above verbal abuse. .22LR is a more effective round than .25 acp. Secondly guns like that will only get you killed. They are flat out garbage. You're better off putting a phoenix arms in a sock and hitting someone with it. |
Ok you hit me with it in a sock then i put a 25acp through your neck first one to post the pos of truth wins!!!!! Its not going to be a carry gun Glock 20 for that. Its going to be a 35 dollar toy to shoot cans with. |
We had a guy get shot in the forehead from "across the car" distance a few months ago. He had a headache and cussed out the EMTs that wanted him to go to the hospital. What are going to rely on this thing for?
|
Its not a ccw pistol. Its for shooting zombie cans. |
+1 22LR = $0.99/50 CCI Stingers $3.99/50 25 ACP = $12.95/50 25 ACP Muzzle Velocity: 760 fps Muzzle Energy: 64 ft. lbs. 22 CCI Stinger Muzzle velocity: 1640 fps Muzzle energy: 191 ft/lb I don't think this is even a reasonable question unless you are rich and have a hard on for the 25 ACP. |
+1 And to the original question, yes it's the same company that made the old Raven SNS, and yes Phoenix Arms is the current name. However, I don't think they have a website. As far as the actual gun, I've heard lots of good things about the HP-22. For what you're paying for, you're getting a pretty good little plinker. I would have no reservations buying one myself if I could. |

Here are some reviews of the 22LR version. www.handgunreview.com/make.asp?make=Phoenix%20Arms I had the range master version of the HP22, it was a 5" & 3" barrel. I didn't like the gun at all, the nickle platting was starting to peal off and it was totally miserable to field strip to clean. I would not recommend getting anything from Phoenix Arms. As much as I can't stand Walther, you would be much better off to get a P22. |
that's assuming the phoenix arms works.nothing more than a drop gun. J |
those .22 numbers aren't taken fron a 2'' barrel. The velocities are very similer when shot from the same length barrels. I still wouldn't own a .25. |

I recently worked on one of these for a friend. Not to put too fine a point on it, it was a piece of shit. I honestly wouldn't accept one if someone gave it to me. It had so many safeties, it was ridiculous. A hammer safety, a manual firing pin safety, a magazine safety. It wouldn't fire a magazine without at least two jams. The magazine was fucked somehow, though it didn't look damaged. Rounds would get stuck at the feed lips and be nearly impossible to budge. The gun's made from cast zinc pot metal, with a layer of nickel or chrome plating to make it look like steel. The hammer had worn grooves in the slide where it passed over the hammer with every shot. There wasn't much point in filing the grooves out because it would just do it again. The feed ramp looked like a corncob. Rube Goldberg obviously consulted on the design if the fieldstrip procedure was any indication. The .25 is a joke for self defense, even if the gun ran reliably. It's even worthless for plinking because .25 is no cheaper than any other centerfire caliber. If you want a pocket pistol, stick with something in .32 or .380. The .22LR versions may run better, but I'd still steer a wide berth around these. There are much better choices for .22s. Still, I'm glad I could play with the HP25 firsthand, because I'd read some good things about them.... obviously written by someone smoking crack. |
+1 I had a Raven for about 25 years. It was mostly a safe queen, but once a year or so I'd put a box of ammo through it. It was 100% reliable and fairly accurate. I sold it off, with a few other weapons, during a clean-out of my safe to free up some room. The rim of a .22 has rounded edges so it can be a little unreliable through an auto. The .25 was developed to combat this. 25 ammo is about the same price as 357mag around here. |

Phoenix Arms do have a lifetime warranty. If they are still in business, and I think they are, they are a standup company. I've got the HP22, and know several others that have them. Using CCI stingers, they function 100%. In my gun, and my son's we started out with CCI, but after 100 rounds, the guns now work 99% with bulk .22 ammo. Got my son's gun used, and it didn't function well at all. Called the factory, and they said to send it in. Cost me $30 because of stupid UPS rules, but Phoenix sent back a new gun, at no cost to me. The mag safeties are easily removed, and I used JB Weld to lock the fp safety in place. For ~$120, they are decent plinkers. Surprisingly accurate for the short barrel too. |
I know a few folks that carry compacts. They use the Phoenix for practice as it's pretty close to the size and weight of their carry piece. Sounds like another of those POS guns that actually work, regardless of their reputation. |
Thanks for posting that. My morning chuckle. I will take a .22 over a .25 any day for plinking or self defense. The only way I would keep a .25 even if someone gave it to me was if it happen to be my Dads or Grandfathers or something. Since they had more sense than that I will not be owning one. |
What are going to rely on this thing for?
Thanks for posting that. My morning chuckle.
