I started using Gunslick's foaming cleaner in an aerosol can. That is undoubtedly the best stuff for cleaning a bore I've ever used. Spray it in, let it sit for 30 minutes or so, then run a patch till dry. The blue stains on my gray epoxy floor is a testament to how much copper and crap that it will take out on the first pass with a patch. I'm a fanatic about keeping a clean bore and clean gun. Even on rifles I've sworn were clean after having used MPro7 and JB Bore Shine, the Gunslick foaming cleaner will bring out blue patches. The Shooter's Choice is a great solvent but it has ammonia in it. If it is left to sit long enough, it will etch carbon steel. I've still got some and will probably use it in the future. But the Gunslick foaming cleaning agent is the best. What's more, you don't have to worry about weeping chemicals in your cleaning equipment. |
Shooter’s Choice is an excellent bore cleaner and IMHO probably a bit better than Hoppes. While it’s not especially aggressive, I don’t think I’d let it set in a bore overnight. FWIW, unless a handgun is very heavily fouled or I see copper in the bore, I just FP-10 and be done with it. It’s faster than fooling with a separate bore cleaner and, except as just noted, does just as well.
Probably written by some lawyer. ![]() I use it as a general solvent with no problems. However, it’s probably a good idea to not get large quantities of it into internal areas that you can’t wipe down. |
