Hey guys, I was wondering if any of you have a picture of a Glock 36 next to a 19/17. I'm looking to compare the width, and just get a general idea for the size of the handgun. I'm thinking about picking one up for a CCW in the near future, but want to make sure its going to be thin enough for me to tuck away. Also, if anyone with "regular" sized man hands could show a picture of them gripping it, I'd like to see how your hand fits on the frame as well. I'd like a concealable gun that I can actually get a decent grip on, and I'm hoping the 36 fits the bill. Assuming it does, it will be the "big brother" to the Kel Tec PF9 I am picking up shortly, or when I wear bigger clothes. Thanks, Scott |
| I'll get a pic for you later. My 19 and 36 will fit in the same holster, but the 36 is a little shorter in length, enough that when I carry up front and I sit down the 19 will pinch a testicle and the 36 won't. The 36 has a slimmer but longer grip, the 19 "feels" better because it's rounder. other than that, they're the same. If it's going to be your main home defense gun too, you can't really beat a 19 with a light and a 33 rounds magazine for when something goes bump in the night. |
I was really hoping it would be thinner than that, especially for a single stack .45Maybe the kel-tec PF9 will be the best way to go afterall... How is the grip height of the pistol? Same as a 19 or shorter? |

How is the grip of the G36 without the magazine extension? Still managable? Was the move to the XD just personal preference, or is it easier to conceal? I prefer the Glock system over the XD, however ease of concealability trumps my "preference" right now. I usually wear more fitted clothing, so any gun that is easier to conceal is a plus, hence why I was looking at the kel-tec PF9, which I may purchase in addition to the G36 to have a few different options... This CCW stuff can get overwhelming...living in IL I never really worried about it, then I got my Utah CCW and that was that. anyways, thanks for the pictures. What holster did you use to CCW your 36? Scott |

The G36 is just a wee bit slimmer than the XD - no question. I elected the XD for the added capacity and modularity. I was looking for a 'do it all' gun which the XD does very well. With the G36 I used an Uncle Mike's inside the pant holster for it. It conceals VERY well. FWIW, the XD also uses the same holster but the grip is a hair thicker. The slide was close enough where I couldn't tell the difference. One interesting point is that the XD compact is actually a little shorter (magwell to top of slide) than the G36 with the +1 extension. If concealment is the primary goal over capacity and versatility, then the G36 is a great choice! I had a hard time deciding to give it up!!! With the standard magazine it's almost invisible. That alone puts the G36 in another catagory over the XD! 8 rounds of 45 Auto is a great package inside such a slim handgun. I don't mean to keep plugging the XD. The Glock 36 is a fantastic choice and his it's distinct advantages. Good luck! |
Plug away, because your experience with CCW is far greater than mine! Based on the concealability factor though, I think the G36 would fit me better. With the standard magazine I think it should do the job just fine. Hopefully 6 rounds of .45 will be plenty to get me out of any situation I might come across. Thanks for the help! |
the G19 size is about perfect for CCW and/or duty the G26/27 is good for max IWB concealment, only if its got the flush mag plate; a tad large for ankle and pocket, but doable the G36 is slimmer, slightly; FWIW, i'd trade up and opt for the wider G30.... as to XDs: besides a few functional qualms, the big reason why i left em is b/c parts are tough to come by... , but they are great shooters!

I also have the Glock 36, I love the gun for what it is, it is small, light compact, durable, easily concelable, and smooth. Yes the hand grip is short, the mag gives a little more length to it. I don't have huge hands, I wear a size 7 1/2 surgical glove..So I guess I am bout average... the one thing I notice though is when I shoot this gun at the range. Is my small finger gets pinched between the mag and the hand grip. I just finshed firing 150 rounds this afternoon, and I have a small are of pinched skin. This is the only down side to this gun for me. Other than that, I love it, and it is my go to CC gun. |
