I own a Super redhawk S.S. 8" 44Mag with factory S.S. scope rings, fitted with a 2-8 power Weaver pistol scope. My question is, has anyone out there had any problems with the Weaver pistol scopes as far as it holding zero, and or the factory rings,Ive already machined the ring bases about .002-.004,so I know the rings are tight. The rds Im using are my reloads and without a dought are the same bullet weights and amount of powder charge, and primers. When I first started shooting the 44 Mag scoped the pistol was dead on,but as time goes on Im having the readj the clickers to get back to zero more often than not.Id shure hate pointing the finger towards my Weaver. Any replies welcome. Thanks |
| there is a mount made for the redhawk that fits on the original factory mount that makes it a lot stronger......I saw it in a magazine and will look for it today.....before I bought another scope I would look into this mount and see how much it costs..........by the way, the Bushnell 2-6x is just as good as the Leupold, and way cheaper........ |

just as good, way cheaper... famous last words. some Weavers will stand the pounding. some won't. his may not have. i doubt it's the rings. lock tight everything down and try again. if it still wanders i would mount a Leupold and shoot it. if if wanders you know it's at least partialy the rings. if not you know it's the scope. |

The pistol has the factory equipped mounting rings which is tighter than a (^&%%%%%&*) so I know its not the mount.I hate to admit it but I also think its the scope,Im going to try loading some lighter loads and see if that helps me a bit Thanks for responses Eddie |
| once a little part in the scope comes loose or get's wonky it's best to chunk the scope. it will always wiggle just a little even with light loads. i know from experience. i have had several cheap scopes and i have blown crosshairs and loosened lenses. that's why i recommended leupold. |

How far do you plan to shoot? Or is the target that small? I use a 2X on my Super Blackhawk Hunter and it is plenty. You use to much power and you may be tempted or misguided in shooting a big bull at a distance that is to far for your ammo. I send 325gr bullets at 1350fps measured at 10' from the muzzle. My Leupold has never failed and cost about $170. Better yet I am not tempted to take a shot that is too far away. |

My Weaver 2.5 to 8 has rode out several thousand rounds on top of a 10 inch D.E.P. .44 with every conceivable load. Since it's on an Eagle, they were HOT. I took a chance on the Weaver and have been pleased. Before you get too upset, call Weaver. Even a Leup can break and bad parts slip through ALL QC departments regardless of the product or company. As far as the magnification goes, at close range I use the irons with the see-through mounts. At longer ranges I love the high power. I leave it on 8 and use the bottom duplex point for a "Poormans" 200 yard range finder. We have the option of 2power if we want it. The straight 2 power users don't have the option of bringing things up-close-and-personal. I never even USED scopes until I had to get bifocals. Now, if I'm going to buy a scope, it's going to be High power and variable. If you never plan on going past about 50 yards, get a red-dot. I have several of them but a 4 to 10 minute dot at 100 yards makes it REAL hard for precise bullet placement. If I have to switch brands, I'd try the Burris before the Leup but that's from an opinion that Leup is charging 80% for the product and 20% for the name. |
