I just bought a little model 37 Airweight .38. I just got done shooting a box of rounds through it, including 4 +P rounds. There is a little rattle inside the firearm near the hammer. Is this normal on all of these type of weapons? I suspect so but just wanted to ask. Thanks!

I purchased a new Taurus 850 a few years ago. I got it home and it sounded like a baby rattle in my ankle holster. After close inspection the cylinder release rattled against the frame, even though the screw was tight.

I took it back the same day and traded up for a S&W 642. No problems since.

Maybe this is what's rattling? If not, I'd have it looked at.

Have a good one!

Many revolvers have some sort of slight, minor rattle. Sometimes the transfer bar safety is what makes the noise, sometimes its something else like a spring that's not quite perfect.

As suggested, check your cylinder release for starters.

Oh, yes, try shaking it w/o moving your head to see if it still rattles?????

In most cases a slight rattle in a S&W is the hammer block safety.
If you slowly cock the hammer and look inside between the hammer and the frame, you'll see a small horizontal silver colored bar sliding down into the frame.

That's the hammer block.

Usually a rattle is an indication the gun could use some lube.
A drop of lube down the RIGHT inside of the frame where the safety block slides will "cure" the rattle.

Thanks a lot! Thats exactly what it was. I put a few drops of lube in there and it cured it right up.
