I'm thinking about investing (not "buying"   ) in a P-210. Aside from Gun List newspaper, does anyone have any suggestions on where to check pricing?

Retail shops are giving me some major sticker-shock! I'm hoping to keep it under $2K, out the door if at all possible.

Thanks in advance!

The P210 is a world class handgun that I would love to own.

If you look around a bit you can find one for $1850 and up.

My buddy scored a P210-2(?) with the mag release on the heel for $1,500 5 years ago.

There are 210s and there are 210s.  Remember, they started out as common service pistols, no different to a milspec 1911 (maybe a bit different).  A few years ago there were a bunch of European surplus 210s knocking around (Danish I think) for cheap money but were just that: military surplus.  Later 210s were used by target shooters and variations were created for that purpose.  There are light frames, heavy frames, fixed sights, adjustable sights, standard barrels, lead bullet barrels, long barrels, early triggers, late triggers, heel mag release, button mag release, short tang, long tang.  You really want to find out as much as you can before dropping cash.  My personal preference: The late long-tang guns have solved the hammer-bite problems but the tang is not comfortable - the shape is wrong.  The button or heel mag release doesn't bother me one way or the other.  The late trigger is a must.  The gun is quite light and recoil can be a bit snappy so the heavy frame is a must.  The adjustable sights are an afterthought and not well executed.  I would suggest you buy a 210-6 heavy frame with early tang, fixed sights, heel release and late trigger.  Nill Grips sells a lovely tang extension that can be glued or screwed onto the existing tang.  Whatever you do do it quickly, I just bought the last six in the Swiss factory and they will not be making any more.  These  pitols do not move quickly so dealers can be nervous with stock.  Find a dealer who has a bunch of them and do the best deal you can.  Good luck.

In the first pic you can see the difference between the light and heavy frames, short and long tang, fixed and adjustable sights.

In this pic you can see the different triggers and button mag release.

One of the problems I am having is finding is a dealer who has them in stock versus "ordering one" from a distributor.

Thanks for the advice, keep it coming! While I'm pretty good on most guns, I am definately a rookie on the P-210!!!!

you need to go over to sigforum.com and read up, there are LOTS of 210 owners over there who can help out.  But don't get one, then I'll be really jealous.
