Looking to throw on a new front sight post on my pistol tonight. digging through my kitchen drawer, all I can find is "blue" locktight. I use to have "red" but I've looked everywhere and can't find it. Is it safe to use the blue?
Off topic but I've noticed that everytime I take a picture of my USP the flash brings out a rust color on the slide release. Looking at it in person You don't see any pitting or rust, but like I said the flash brings it out. Any ideas what I can do to treat this?

Just remember that blue locktite 242 is "removable" for 1/4" and larger fasteners----it is  "permanent" on 'under' a 1/4" fasteners----just thought I would point that out. I've known a few people to find out the hard way that its "removable" status dissappears on small items (and, consequently, they damage these 'little' items trying to get it apart).

ETA: Isn't the front sight on an HK dovetailed? Unless it is machined wrong (oversize), I would think it would be PLENTY tight enough without any 'threadlocker'.

My recollection is that Blue is weaker than Red.  Suggest you check the Locktite website.

The color shown on your slide release is typical of a blue not taking too well to a really hard part (which it probably is).  Granted in this case it may simply have to do with the color temperature of your camera flash.  Either way I wouldn’t worry about it.

FLITZ will remove the microscopic rust from blued steel without harming the blueing.

I have used blue and red loctite on several sights.  I have never had a problem removing either one.  Personally, I don't think the small screws used on front sights contain enough surface area to fully become locked by loctite.  The only problem I have had was with sights coming loose, due to the loctite being too old.  As in, I opened it, and it sat around for a few months before using it again.

if you have rust the blueing has been compermised.

My extractor on my usp is the same as your slide stop.
