TheRedGoat has stepped to the plate to be the new whipping boy.

Brian brings a wealth of handgun knowledge with him so don't be afraid to ask him anything!

A big HOWDY to RedGoat.
Use the "beer" button sparingly...runnin' a little low.
The "flush" button doesn't always work either, so keep your shoes on.
The "kill" button is the kewlest of them all, but then nobody would be here.
And your alltime favorite all
around handgun is? (we gotsta know, so we can make fun of it)
Enjoy

My main carry gun, even while hog hunting, is a Smith and Wesson Sigma SW40C

Can't say I didn't warn you.

TRG: You still looking for a pre-ban or did you find one? (I noticed your sig line changed)

Also, you interested in a S&W 9F? (remember the one I showed you at the farm)

Why did I ask? What was I thinkin'? J/K
They did make some that worked well, evidently, you have one. AND you never hear of a KB problem either. My two "staples" are a 5906 and a 645, they too, work for me.

Well, I wouldn't say mine works 'well.'  It is more like "well...it works"

If you know what I mean.  For a .40 it shoots very accurately.  I had some reliability issues until I switched to round nosed Federal Personal Defense loads.

More than adequate for hogs.  I shot a hog once, broadside with the Sigma .40.  The round penetrated the right shoulder and spinal column, the left shoulder and stopped under the skin on the far side.

Three bone structures... that is alot of pentration.  The recovered round looked like a picture from a magazine.  Flared open, center post bent.

Federal Personal defense.  135 grain. Round nosed, Hydrashock.

I carry it in my Glock 23 as well.

Thank goodness I have no hog problem like that!
A couple of geese out back, and a few chipmunks, since I moved from the city is all.
I guess a 9MM would be a bit weak for you, in your neck of the woods.
If you can't tell, I don't hunt...I'd probably run from a cow! (A city boy can't survive) I let Ronald McDonald do my killin'. LOL!

Thanks, SGB.

anothergene,

I don't recall shooting any hogs with a 9mm.  Shot placement is everything.  Only a CNS shot will stop them in their tracks.

The hog that was hit with the .40 WALKED away.  Both shoulders were shattered, the spinal cord had been exposed by the bullet and the spinal column was severey damaged.

Almost 14 inches of tissue was penetrated, along with three MAJOR bone structures.  I think over penetration might be a factor with this load.

It is 'only' 135 grains.

Afterall, most human bodies are thinner than 14 inches, and have only two bone structures in the chest...

Welcome aboard Brian. We have a great bunch of people here. I've learned alot from hanging with them.
PS..I don't know if 1GUNRUNNER told you but..the only stipulation we set for "hiring" you was that you provide the Photoshop forum a picture of you on a monthly basis!
