Had my first experience with a Makarov (Russian) today, a .380.  Shoots well, but all of the fired brass has a slight swell/bulge about 1/4" up from the bottom of the case.  Is this the gun not functioning properly, the ammunition, or just normal?  Thanks for any help.

Are you sure it's a .380 chambered barrel?  Sounds like you're shootin' .380 in a 9x18Mak chamber.

No; the slide is marked "Cal.380-ACP".  I was using Remington UMC ammo by the way.

Just fer fun, slide a 9*18 shell in and see (just slide it in... use enough control so you don't shoot while it's in there... he he)...

I hate Maks anyhow...

Be careful.

Are there markings on the barrel? I wonder if it actually has a 9x18 barrel but the slide is marked for .380 (9x17)?

That may be possible as the 9x18 bullet is .364 in diameter (more like 9.2mm) while the .380 is .355 in diameter. That may be causing the bulging you see.

It's definitely not good. I wouldn't fire it until you get it checked. That is an accident waiting to happen.

I measured the barrel with calipers, and it is a .355 incher.
