I am looking for a good deer gun and I might have a chance to pick up a used model 629 with a 6 inch barrel. Is this a good choice? What is a good price for one in good condition?

Well, it's a lot of gun, that's for sure. The 6" barrel is a good compromise between portability and sight radius. The M-29 and 629 are very good, very reliable and strongly built. For hunting, the longest barrel is prefered so 6" would be a lot better than 4" but I think there was an 8 or 8 1/2" barrel too. For current prices jump over to one of the auctions or GunsAmerica and see what the 629s and M-29s are selling for.

Anywhere from $450 & up, according to the latest visit to Gunbroker.com
While the "dirty harry" 8 3/8ths barrel looks awesome, as sig said, the 6 incher seems just right.
