| i recently bought a used Sig P226 in .40 in good condition.it shoots great, but the slide does not lock back after the last round is fired.any comments/suggestions on this? i'd really appreciate any info i could get |
| Well, there are other possibilities. You could have a broken slide stop. If you open the action and look inside you should see a small bar protruding from the left side of the frame. If that bar is broken off then it would fail to lock. Worst case scenario is you have a worn slide. I doubt that. I am not super knowledgable about Sigs or any kind of handgun for that matter, so wait until somebody a little more savvy comes along. Paging gotm4, paging gotm4! MJD |
Thats what happens when you play with old guns... |
yes,old guns that have successfully KICKED ASS for a century |
That would be the last Century...right? ![]() |
I'm just busting your hump..I have had a ton of 1911's but to tell the truth, I have found better combat autos for my use...to many 1911's have to, outa the box, be tinkered with to feed hollowpoints and to be reliable.... God...if I had the money back that I have sunk into 1911's I would have more guns... ![]() Hey to each their own...I just have no love for the gun.. |
lol.true enough.personally, though,i've really only had much experience with a couple.a SA TRP Operator, and my Kimber TLE/RL II.i've put over 2500 rds through the Kimber out of the box,and have yet to have one misfire, with any type of ammo i've put through it. but hey, that's just MY experience. some guys have all the luck.of course,i'm the one who can't make the slide stay back on my Sig OR my HK |

Another possibility is lack of lubricant. For whatever reason, Sigs sometimes have this problem when they are run dry (and/or dirty). Try lubing it pretty generously and see what happens. Also, makes sure your mags are clean on the inside. Re: weak mag springs. The older German-made mags (with the witness holes on the back) always seemed to have marginally powerful springs that would sometimes take a set. The newer Mecgar springs (with witness holes along the side and marked “made in Italy”) have much stronger springs. If you’ve got German-made mags, replacing the springs with Wolfe extra power springs is a good idea regardless. While very unlikely, damaged mag followers could be causing problems. |
As others have said, could be worn dirty mags, weak/worn mag springs and/or followers. Or a bad slide stop and/or broken or worn slide catch lever spring (which I think I have one). If you're in NoVA I can take a look at it and/or buy new mags springs and a new 'parts kit' (all new springs) and install it for you. IM me if you're interested. |
I guess lack of reading skills is part of being a goderator...If you are going to quote someone, then read the fucking post and quote the goddamn post right, not selectively.... ![]() My post is 6 posts up from this one....if you can count that high. The accurate quote is- I have found better combat autos for my use Not your use, not their use, not the fucking Marines use...but for me, and me alone. One more thing I'm begining to hate about this place...if you don't follow the hive mind, you are a outcast..fucking snobs SBG-Anytime, anywhere, I'll put my Berettas, not the 9mm's but my Cougar 8045, up against your 1911...Buttface.. ![]() |
