| DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW MUCH A PURCHASE PERMIT COST IN MI???? |
![]() ![]() I did a quick google search, and searched over at www.packing.org, and from what I read, it doesnt cost anything. They give one to you at the time of request, usually valid for 10 days. Could have changed though, you would probably have better luck posting in the hometown forum. |
| Usually about 5 bucks form your local PD or sheriff dept depending on where you live, good for 10 days. Your dealer will NOT do this for you, you must go thru your local LEO. If you have a CCW it takes the place of a Purchase permit and you do not have to get one from your PD. Some places will mess with you, ask what you are buying and such, they MUST issue one per state law as long as you pass the checks and "test". |

If I remember correctly it was $5 for the permit to purchase and the "safety inspection" was free. Or it could be the other way around. But with a Concealed Pistol License there is no charge for the inspection, and the permit to purchase isn't required. And typing in all capital letters is the electronic equivalent of yelling |

The locals are not allowed per PA 381 to charge anything for the License to Purchase... ETA: www.michigan.gov/msp/0,1607,7-123-1586_27094-10953--,00.html

Yes they do, they are allowed to recoup the cost from the "customer". I've had a CCW since 3 months after the CCW law went into effect so I don't have to pay it. I figure I have actually SAVED money because I have a CCW because I buy a lot of handguns. $5 for permit, "Safety Inspection" is no charge. Darkstar, interesting, maybe they charge because they make you take a test? I agree it should be free myself as it is my right to own a firearm. |
| I haven't lived there for a couple years, but if I remember correctly Washtenaw and Berrien didn't charge anything. I never needed a notary, if I sold the pistol face to face, just keep the buyer's permit for life (or until I moved out of MI). I never had to take a test either. Just fill out the form and wait for the phone call. I did however have to bring the pistols back in for a "Safety Inspection." i.e. register the serial #. |
