After much abuse from a friend who is a 10mm bigot, I have decided to add another caliber to my collection.

So, I am looking for advice from the minds here to expand my knowledge and narrow down my decision for a 10mm auto.

Criteria:

1.  10mm
2.  Semi-auto
3.  1911
4.  <1000.00USD
5.  Reliable
6.  Not a Glock

I already have a .45ACP 1911 (Kimber TLEII) which has been reliable and great to shoot, so I am leaning towards them for a 10mm, but would equally entertain other makes.

Edit to add #6.

Glock 20

no matter how much i love the 1911, 10mm is best w/ the glock imo

h/w, 10mm 1911s looks a hell of a lot better

Hmmmm  The only ones I can think of that meet your criteria would be the Dan Wesson Razorback.  I've heard mixed reviews on 'em though.  Truthfully, if I were to get a 10mm (in that price) I'd opt for a Glock 20.  It's the only one (autoloader) I know of that can handle a steady diet of full house 10mm.  If I had the money though, I'd love to have a custom Yost 1911 in 10mm  though.  I wonder if Nighthawk makes a 10mm?  Hmmmmmmmmmm

I've owned a Colt Delta Elite 10mm, and 2 Peters Stahl Omega 10mm pistols.

The Delta Elite cracked the frame at the slide stop.

The first Omega cracked the slide.

I sold the second Omega before anything happened to it.

I know this is not on your list, but the DA/SA S&W 1000 series is also capable of handling the high-pressure loads of the 10mm Auto. The Glock 10mms are engineered from the ground-up to handle the 10mm.

Go with a GLOCK.  Don't take my word for it though, google "Bren Ten" and "Delta Elite"
and "10mm autos."  Problems within 1000-2000rds in all except Glock.  HK and Sig make 10mms but do not import them.

Dan Wesson Pointman in 10mm, Glock 20 or get both DW is 7+1 rounds vs 15+1 rounds in the G20.
I love both of them

His Criteria is a 1911 not a glock, dam glocksters

Dan Wesson make some mighty fine 1911 chamber in the 10mm. The new ones are made by CZ as they recently bought DW.

This is a DW PMA Aussie, I had a reliability tune, trigger job done by Severns Custom, its runs 100% no problems, very accurate. I was considering selling this weapon to finance a custom longslide 10mm but I really dont want to get ride of a sweet shooter. Enjoy

check out the slide to frame fit

results first time out, using handloads, flyer on left was oil burnoff

If DW made one without the damn forward cocking serrations, I'd be all over one like stink on a monkey.

That is right up my alley.  I don't mind the forward serrations, as my only 1911 has them.

Keep 'em coming, folks.

Idea if you reload,
Buy a 1911 in 40 with ramped and full suported chamber, long throat the barrel to 1.225 and change the recoil spring out to a 24lb unit.

Now you have a endless supply of cheap one fired 40 brass (1k for like $15.), and can long load/hot load the  .40 to 10mm specs (OAL 1.225) due to the increased case volume.

You have to remember that a .40 is nothing more than just a 10mm with a shortened case and loaded lighter.

to a degree, the case with the 10 is much strong to handle the higher pressures. I dont think you can reload .40 to 1600-1700 FPS at least I wouldnt want to try

racer934 Kimber makes a nice 10 but I think they retail for 1100 or more.

Someone asked if Nighthawk built a 10mm, they do. If you really wanted one of the best 10 on the market they can build it, but expect to pay 2200 or more

My 1911 10mm package is an old AMT Javelina, hasn't cracked or failed yet.  However, I would like to try the Kimber 10mm and wish Wilson would make one.

I know the S&W Model 610 is about as far from being a 1911 as any firearm could be, but you might want to look at that. You can shoot .40S&W out of it when you aren't shooting full 10mm loads.

The pic from S&W's website won't  show. I think the 610 is no longer in production.

Picture from google.

Dano - is this your opinion? Are you currently running this set up? How long have you been running it? This is contrary to a lot of things I have read .

Racer - if you want a 1911 pattern gun - you get 3 choices for @ $1k -  DW, Kimber,  Colt DE - esp if you can find any of these used. If you go with a DE there is alot of info on the web regarding which years to avoid (there was a frame mod to get away from cracking). The Kimber and DW look like the value leaders. Pistolsmith has a lot of info on the pieces parts that you may want to swap out - esp if you carry it.

I had a G20. It was nice but too large for my hand. I had a 1911 built. My carry ammo is from Mike McNett - 180 grn gold dots; my practice loads are 180's and Blue Dot at a mid 220's power factor.

10mm is a great cartridge. I would like to see it become substantially more popular than it is.

Good luck

How about one of these:

They fit your criteria, and since you are already a Kimber man...

CZ bought Dan Wesson, but as far as I know Dan Wesson is still manufacturing all the pistols in the same location with the same people.

Anyway other than the Dan Wesson, the only other 1911 10mm I have heard of is the Kimber, which I thought was basically going to be a production model, or at least there would be several runs a year of it,

I suppose you could find a used Colt, my buddy has one that I have been trying to get him to sell to me for years, but as others have said they do not have a great reputation for having a long life.
