Picked up this p239 in .40. Yes .40. 8 rounds of 180 grain gold dot is a formidable package. I have guns numbering in the double digits in 9mm just wanted something a little different. Nite sites 3 mags $625 + tax.

I carried one in .357Sig for years. Traded that gun off, always had a soft spot for the 239 and wanted it in .40 despite all the .40 hate. I was never one of the cool kids

.40 is a darn good round.  I don't get the hate...there is no perfect defense pistol round.......so if .40 works...who cares?

40 is not my favorite but you can never go wrong with a classic Sig.  The 239 is a great gun.

Not that 10mm Kurz is a bad round I can just shoot more 9mm for the same cost.

Nice pistol OP

I wouldn't say that I *hate* .40, but it is far from being a favorite round because it causes a snappy recoil which takes some of the fun out of shooting. By comparison, shooting .45ACP and 9x19 is much smoother.

To each his own, though. We all have personal preferences.

I also picked up a 40 . I got a new Smith 2.0 L/E package ,with night sights ,3 mags and extra mags were 11 bucks each I got 3 more the gun was 355 and ex mags 11 each all new fact . I still like the 40 and a load off 165 Gold Dot or Fed HST will take the fight out of a 295 pd gang banger .

A 239 in .40 is a good gun for personal defense, IMO.

I have one as well, picked it up pretty cheap, compared to the asking price for the same gun in 9mm

Those single stacks carry well.
Good pick,OP.

My usual carry is a glock 26 or 19; I'm not averse to 9mm.
Despite advancements in bullet design, physics always has to be factored in, and 180 grains going nearly 1000 feet per sec with a bullet just as advanced as a 9mm is acceptable to me.

I'm old enough to remember the days when 185 grain .45 ACP was THE hot setup. 180 .40 comes pretty close to that IMO.
For me, less capacity and I want a bigger heavier bullet

Never understood the hatred for the .40.  I have an XD in a .40 that I had bought just for shits and giggles, always enjoyed shooting it.  Nice pickup either way!

Hot!!!

Only thing I don't like about the 239 is the grip feels kind of blocky with the stock grips.  I think I'd need it with some hogues or something.

Let us know how she shoots!!!!

I had one years ago, ended up liking the grip on my P225 better.

Only Sig i have left is a 2022.

Oh, i let my niece shoot that GP 100,first magnum and first wheel gun for her.
Saw her a week later and she wanted to know if it was for sale. lol

Funny, I just ditched one of those.    I don't like the P-series SIGs, not a huge fan of .40, low capacity, and a teeny grip that feels hard to hang onto.

Those things are hard to give away around here.

Arfcom....where basement dwelling neckbeards debate calibers for self dense.

Plus 1 for the OP's .40 S&W choice.

Good choice OP!  I do like that Sig and there is nothing wrong with the .40 S&W round.  I have an XD40 Service Model that is one one my my accurate pistols.

Great gun!  I wish I could find one in .357 myself.

The way I see it is, if you want to impress someone by shooting like a rockstar, the 9mm has the low recoil you'll need.  9mm has come a long way since the 90s, but physics are physics and the less it kicks at the sending end, the less it has at the business end.

Nice weapon , and the 40 is a good round. If you are a hand loader you can load some Hornady 165 grain XTP's over Hodgdon Longshot and have one hell of a SD round. I get 1220 fps from a 4 inch barrel with my 165 grain Longshot 40 hand loads

40 is a good caliber.   The reason why 9mm  became all the rage is because of the transition from men to women in the shooting doctrines.   The women and “meek” statured men can’t handle the snappy round.  I was in law-enforcement for 28 years.  I witnessed it myself.

However I’ve never met anyone who can differentiate between what caliber is perforating their vital organs.

What counts is shot placement.   I’d rather have someone that can shoot a 22 accurately than someone who carries a 44 mag that can’t hit the side of a barn.

I’ve witnessed those types

Carried a P239 in .40 for years. Sold it to buy something else. I regret that, because that is one sweet gun.

.40 hate? I just finished another 1K run of .40 on the 550, and will shoot it up before mid winter. .45, .38 and 9MM also in the bins in 1K lots.

Here's what I don't understand about the Arf .40 haters:
-.40 goes out the barrel with more kinetic energy than 9mm. That's physics.
- If the round stays in the target, more energy is imparted to the target than 9mm. That's physics.

How is that a bad thing? I'm not a cop- if the fifteen +1 in my G22 doesn't get'er done, I'll be leaving. Arfcom extended gun battles aside, I think this is realistic.

I don't get the .40 hate either.  Until the FBI went back to the 9mm everyone was fine with it, then voila!  EHRMAGERD! FURTY IS SOO LAME!  Feds didn't even have any reasons that most private citizens would care about.

Heavier projectile pushed faster, except for slightly reduced magazine capacity what's not to like?

Personally I don't even think 40 is that snappy, except maybe in a pocket pistol.

40 sucks guys and everyone knows it. Just an inferior round that is way to snappy.

.........Now I can go back to picking up more 40's on the cheap.
Bought 3 used HK P30 40's recently for a great deal. As much as I dislike glocks
I've been tempted to pick up a used 40. Then I see they are going for more than the Sigs
and HK's and laugh.

Really?  I see used Glock .40s all over the place for $350 and under.   I'm not opposed to .40 at all.  It's a lot more comfortable to shoot in some guns versus others, though.

I have a Gen 1 P239 in SAS configuration.  So it is dehorned and all edges are smoothed out.  The 40 shoots well out of it.  Got speed sights and a really nice wood grip.

OP got a good gun in   a good caliber

What grips do you have? If I have a complaint it's that the gun seems slightly thin in my hand, just a little wider would be perfect

Never understood why people get a hardon for the SAS.  Okay, so "sharp" edges are rounded, sure it looks nice, but you're not exactly mexican carrying where those edges can do anything to make you uncomfortable.  The gun lives in a holster unless you're using it (and you're not touching the edges anyway) or cleaning it.

I got the Sig Sauer branded wood grips that came with the P239.

Several places can make a thicker grip rosewood or whatever material you wish.

I've never shot the .40 in a Sig. I carried a G27 for (5) years though. Hated that little piece of shit! Made shooting 165 grain Gold Dots feel like full house 10mm. Sold and picked up an M&P40c to CCw for the next (5) years. Loved that reliable, soft shooting little bitch so much it's the only plastic pistol I still own. In my experience, shooting a .40 anything out of the right platform makes all the difference in felt recoil impulse/(flip) that all the haters love to bitch about. Shooting the .40 is a dream out of M&P's, CZ's, and 1911's, to the point it feels like a 9mm+P. Sadly, I sold all my 40's except the M&P40c aforementioned above to consolidate semi-auto calibers to 9mm and .45acp. Then I got into vintage S&W and Colt .38Specials and the little .40 just sits in the safe. I think I'm going to take only the .40 to the range and put 200-300 thru her to show some love next trip...
