Would love to create a definitive list of the manufacturers that utilize essentially the same magazines for 9mm AND .40 S&W. It seems more and more manufacturers are discounting their .40 magazines and if the .40 is a rebranded 9mm (capacity stamp, caliber stamp, etc.) then its a cheaper alternative. For example, does a .40 S&W Sig SP2022 magazine work in a 9mm SP2022 handgun? A 9mm SP2022 magazine is priced by sig at $44 but now their .40 magazines are on sale for $9.

I'll start: Beretta 92 FS 9mm and .40 are the same (rebranded) magazine.

Please add!!!

Aren't the Sig 229-1 magazines made to the same physical size (in 9mm or 40 S&W).   Then, wasn't there also a .22 LR conversion that was available?

Aloha, Mark

I don't know how close the SP2022 mags are, but for that price worth it to order a couple and try them out.

Worst case the feed lips can be bent slightly inward and use them for range mags.

I have used the beretta neos 22 mags in a colt 22, same mag different baseplate.

Springfield Armory XDM 40
With 3.8 barrel. You can swap out barrels for the round shooting and you can use the same double stack magazine. I know Springfield sells cal specific magazine but the 9 mm will work in the 40 magazine. It's not advertised as such but I ran my pistol with this set up until I was able to get dedicated mags for both rds. Same gun frame only difference was barrel swap and ammo swap.

I've used a G22 mag to feed 9mm in a G22 with a conversion barrel (100 rounds without issue) but never in a G17

I recently ordered a few of those P2022 .40 mags from Sig. I have the P2009,P2340 and P2022. Back in my Cali days it was quite common for people to used the 10 round .40 mags in their 9mm. I can confirm they worked a few years ago.

My sig 226 .40 and 9mm mecgar mags are identical other than count marks.

These are the 18 round 9mm mags, also 13 round .40 mags.

I have a few CZ mags for my 75B that are marked 9mm on one side and .40 on the other.  T the best of my knowledge, CZ mags are mostly interchangeable.  If they are long enough.

I had a Star Firestar that had mags marked .40 on one side and 9mm on the other.

I know that during the ban people would buy HK USP compact .40 mags and load them up with 13 9mms for range practice...I don't think I'd trust it for real use, but for range use they seemed to work.

My feeling are the same. The mags are most likely not identical unlike what OP is suggesting.

I used my 229 40 mags for 9mm but seemed like the feed lips were barely holding the rounds in place. I wouldn’t want to grab a mag and find that it had spit some rounds out or worse have it do it while in the gun.

H&K P7M13 9mm and H&K P7M10 .40 magazines are interchangeable. At least the P7M10 .40 magazines can be used in both pistols. I haven't tried using P7M13 9mm magazines with .40 ammo.

OP mentioned the Beretta 92 but the Taurus PT92 and the PT100 mags also interchange.

Kel-Tec P40 and P11. Feed lips might be a little different. Also takes S&W mags below.

Some SW 59** series mags interchange with the SW 46** series mags. The mecgars I have work interchangeably but the factory SW 4006 mags have a little bump on them that prevents them from being inserted into 9mm frames. The 9mm factory mags work fine in the 40 cal guns though. YMMV!!!

I compared my HK P2000 mags. I have both .40 and 9mm.

HK appears to use the same follower and spring. The spring locking plate is different (not the floor plate), the .40 is a bit larger and won't fit right in the 9mm magazine meta.. The lips on the 9mm are 0.3480" and the lips on the .40 are 0.3670.

A 9mm round will fit in the .40, but not the other way around because of the way the front of the metal is shaped below the lips.

I guess it would work in a bad situation, but seems sketchy.

Astra A-75 mags are stamped for both and I have loaded both in them.

I have the RAP-440 which takes Astra-75 magazines.

You can install a 9mm barrel in an M&P .40 and then shoot 9mm out of the .40 magazines, but I'd only do that at the range when reliability isn't critical.

For serious use I'd use the proper 9mm mags.

I have a Glock 23 with a 9mm conversion barrel.  The Glock 23 handles the 9mm cartridges very well.

You're wrong. A Beretta 92 and 96 magazine are different. The feed lips are shaped differently and the followers are different too. A 9mm in a .40 S&W will not feed properly because the feed lips are too large and will not hold the cartridge in place and a .40 S&W in a 9mm mag will not feed at all since the feed lips are too narrow and will keep the round from being pushed into the chamber by the slide.

Same with Glock, HK, and Sig. .40 S&W mags don't work. 9mm in .40 S&W suck.

Here's a mind-blower for you; I used to have a Taurus PT-101 (.40 cal adjustable sights, aluminum frame copy of the Beretta 92). My Dad once gave me four Beretta 9mm mags he found cleaning carpets in an empty apartment. Once I opened up the locking notch in the mag bodies to Taurus dimensions I was able to use all of them as .40 mags with no further mods. They fit and functioned like factory. Dimensionally, they seemed identical. I imagine most companies that make identical guns in both 9mm and .40 utilize the same mag to save money.
