So I got the itch to buy something cheap.
Their are a lot of LE 40 trade ins. Which would you get and why? Sig 226, HK usp, Beretta 96? |
Never owned a 40 from your list. However, I do have a Glock 22 gen 4 law enforcement trade in that I bought used. It has never let me down.
I also bought a 9mm conversion barrel from Wolf, which has worked flawlessly after near 1000 rounds. |
I'd get a Sig P229 CPO for $450. It'll be in basically new condition, as opposed to the LE trade ins that might be in rough shape.

Was also thinking about the 4006tsw CHP
Range gun Not going to carry it. |
I picked up a DHS trade-in Sig P226R DAK and for $400 it was essentially brand new; if it had been carried or shot much (at all?), I couldn't tell.
I liked it so much, and for the $, I decided to make the DAK a training gun and get a DA/SA for SD/EDC. Same deal, like new for about $425. I liked the DA/SA so much I bought another one to put a light on for HD. There are still P229s out there and their slightly shorter slide would probably be a better carry option. TSA recently had 1,000 rnds of 180gr Fed HST for $0.30/rnd; I'll probably never have to buy (40) SD ammo again. |

something metal. 40 likes a little weight to tame it down. Hard to go wrong with a Sig P series.
Of what you listed, the P226.
I'd recommend a gen4 G35 though. Great fun gun! |
I own a Beretta 96, bunch of Glocks, HK USP, Sig SP2022, CZ 75B, and BHPs.
All are fine but the Beretta is fantastic. Glocks also rock. |

Any of the three you picked would be perfect for the 40 round. Picking one would be hard.

Another vote for the 4006, awesome, slick shooting guns, little heavy to carry but that helps on the range.

226
229 4006TSW M96 G22 in that order, the G22 will recoil the most since it polymer but the rest will be soft shooters for sure, I have had all of those and still have the 226... |

View Quote I found the G22 to be the softest. The M96 is second followed by the 4006 and 226/229 tied since they have high bore axis. |

Same. I carry a G22 & mostly shoot Glocks. But my Beretta 96 is fine, Not for carry but it shoots well. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes |

I'm not even a Sig fan but the prices on some used .40 models are hard to pass up.
Get one and a .357 barrel for it and knock yourself out. |
I've been CC'ing a USP 40C LEO trade in for 8 years. Mine is DA/SA with a straight decocker. Other than some grip scars, it looked nearly Un used. $429 was a good price then.

M&P 40 trade-ins are sub $300. I bought an M&P 357 sig and a 40 barrel just for

I like the P226 and P229 in .40. To my feel they are some of the softest shooting .40s. A Gen4 Glock 22 or 35 would be good too. The M&P40 is also good.

I got a used SR40c off gunbroker for $240 delivered. Take a look at them.
HK USP/C > anything else
Can also swap out the barrel in the uspc for 357sig if you want. |
If you're contemplating a leo trade-in p226, most of them have a DAK installed. I love me some p226 and have several copies, but IMO the DAK ruins the gun and fixing the trigger will cost you more than you saved buying it used.

OP, whats the intended purpose?
I have had a gen 2 G23 for over 25 years and wanted something if I heard a bump in the night. No safety lever to f with. Feeds and fires reliably. Lots of after market parts to upscale the trigger pull, mag release and sights. Paid $350 for it used in mint condition. If your looking for a range toy that can keep a group, get something all steel like a CZ75B. |
Market is flooded with M & P 40's for less that $300 if you don't want to spend much mags are easy to come by too.
I has a CZ 75B in .40 and my wife has the CZ P07. Both are great IMO, although the P07 can be a little snappy .

While I say friends don't let friends buy 40sw psa has a great deal on new xdm 40sw, 3.8 and long barreled.
If thats your take on it. I have two xdm 9mm that Ive owned for a few years and they are fine pistols! I sold all my glocks and kept the xdm's. But if anyone has some SA 1911's that they can't stomach owning anymore cause "they fucked over gun owners" then take a real stand and give away your gun. Oh.. whats that? Not gonna do that? Well then I guess this is right up there with NFL kneeling, its a important enough to them to kneel and say a big fuck you to people who died for that flag, but not enough to lose money.
Back on topic..... 40 is dead because its doesn't do anything 9mm can't do with more rounds in a mag. |
If I was going to go the police trade in route, I'd get a USP because they're a pretty awesome value.
But a major distributor is running a steep discount on new full size PX4s in .40 right now, so that's the direction I went. The downside is that it's the 10 round model, so I'll need to buy some more mags. |
