I was thinking about my three favorite handguns the other day, for practical purposes, and it wasn't as difficult for me to narrow down as I first thought it might. Interestingly my three favorite pistols all use different firing actions, it's something I've never been picky about.

The obvious one is my favorite, the one I shoot the most and would go to before anything else, my M9A3. I've put more rounds through the Beretta 92 than any other pistol platform, and it continues to impress. On my first range trip with the M9A3, I put 300 rounds downrange, suppressed and unsuppressed, getting the barrel hot enough to show mirage. The Beretta is accurate, 100% reliable, has a great trigger, with sexy style to top it off. The M9A3 includes a vertec grip with checkering, a threaded barrel, night sights, and is a decock only "G" model. My favorite pistol.

My number two would have to be the gun I carry the most. I've carried a lot of guns but the one I always seem to have on my hip is my Glock 26. This pistol travels with me a lot, for good reason. It is small, light and easy to conceal, yet it packs 10+1 rds of 9mm and shoots more like its bigger brother, the Glock 19, than any mouse gun. The ability to accept larger 15-33rd Glock mags is also a huge plus. The Glock 26 is the perfect balance of light, small, accurate, reliable, and shootable, perfect for a concealed carry pistol.

With my first two choices being 9mm, I needed a .45 to round out my selection, and the obvious choice is the first .45 ACP. The Colt Combat Unit Rail Gun is a newer 1911 with the M45A1's beefier rail, front strap checkering, front night sight, national match barrel, beveled mag well, firing pin safety, and an ionbond finish. There are many 1911's I could choose but the CCU has all the features I look for in a defensive 1911. As much as I enjoy the Glock 21 and other .45s, the 1911 is still my favorite. It is simply smooth, accurate and fun to shoot.

What are your three favorite pistols, and why?

I like that. What sights are you using on the G19?

Thanks for the light recommendation.

Steel, 5" 1911's in .45 with no firing pin safety crap.

G19 Gen4 with night sights

I find myself REALLY wanting a 92/M9A1 for a fun light recoiling, reliable HD gun that my wife can shoot well.

You see, I have other guns, but I can't say I have a 3rd favorite. Glocks and 1911's are great, my others are boring and less impressive.

Right now, my three favorites are
Kimber Compact CDP (pre-Series II),
CZ 75 P-01,
Ruger Speed Six.

I traded a Beretta 92 for a Colt Python 25 yrs ago.  Ended up selling the Colt. God if only I could go back in time, I'd have them both today.

That FDE 92  is a sexy bitch. I'm really torn on my next purchase, Beretta 92, CZ75, or Sig P220.

Heinie straight 8s.

Glad you grabbed a light. Did you get 2? I got one months ago but traded it for a black one on the EE.

In terms if why

The g19 is the perfect size for EDC. It's simple, light, and I shoot it better than anything. 15 RDS plus a 17rd reload. I pretty confident I can handle any possible situation with it. I have the scd in it so i prefer it for my preferred aiwb carry.

The Beretta m9a1 compact is the same size but a little heavier. I prefer da/say for carry. Inside 15 yards from concealment I prefer DA. The sa is a lot better and more enjoyable to shoot. Unfortunately it doesn't have night sights. I can shoot Berettas faster than anything else while still making hits.

The Springfield loaded is heavier and bigger but being thinner it's actually easier to conceal than the above 2. Night sights, very comfortable grip, but I find I'll throw a shot or 3 out of 50 at 25 yards. I don't know if it's the grip or the trigger. It's the newest gun so it just may need some more range time.

Good aiwb holsters and 11 oclock mag pouches make it easy for shorts and t shirt carry.

No, just one for the Beretta. I don't have a holster that will fit a light bearing 1911 yet, need to find one of the safariland holsters for the M45A1.

My favorite gun to shoot hands down is my CZ75 and if I had one gun to grab and go this would be it.

My off duty concealed carry gun that I choose and shoot just as well as my duty Glock is my Sig P938. I just love this gun.

Third gun that I own that is my favorite is the Glock 40 MOS, its just a lot of power with a lot of pills to let loose.

Ruger Mk 1 22lr with tapered target barrel

If it this had been a top 5, I would have put a CZ75b, G17 or maybe a 92fs in there.

Sorry, just couldn’t do it.  I have two sets of “threes”.  First, are my favorite shooters.  More “service-pistol” sized, but I do carry my Dan Wesson CBOB and BHP during cooler weather.  The CZ85 is a transitional that I picked up when stationed at Fort Hood, TX.  I paid something under $400 for it when CZs were on the market but not much attention.  I own several CZs now, but this one is just simply has the smoothest trigger (both DA and SA) and is extremely accurate for a combat pistol.  The DW CBOB is a superb bobtail Commander sized .45 and by far my favorite and it’s just plain sexy looking.  The BHP was my redeployment gift after returning from my first tour to Iraq.  I added night sights and slim G10 grips; I love their bluing and the grip really melts in my hand.  Despite it being all steel, it carries like a dream in a IWB holster.

My favorite 3 carry guns.  The Sig P228 (now upgraded with the E2 slimmer grips) was my very first handgun purchase in 1993; my officer commissioning gift to myself.  This was my carry gun for quite some time.  The Glock 26 is simply the most carried CCW handgun I own and it’s been on more trips and travel.  Nothing sexy about it; it just works.  Lastly, I have really fallen in love with Sig’s P938.  While I typically pack the G26 when traveling longer distances, the P938 is my “dress up” CCW that is getting a lot of carry time for local social events and quick trips to the store.  I just love the features, accuracy and size…it shoots far better than I am capable which is surprising from a sub-compact.
