Well, this is the year of the 45th President and the first time in eight years I have had some breathing room to get guns "just because".  Interested in getting a 45 ACP high capacity (over 10) pistol.  Mostly been focused on 9mm so I'm not sure what is out there besides the XD45 and the Glock 21.  Any recommendations?

Glock 37

FNX 45
M&P 45
Sig P227 P320
2011
Walther PPQ
HK MK23 USP

FNX Tactical or HK USP get my vote.  FN holds 15+1.  They make 12 Rnd mags for the HK

The first handgun I looked at was a Springfield GI hi cap 1911. That thing fit my hand perfect.

Then I found out this state required a special note to purchase a handgun. Still want something like it.

FN or P227 would be my choice...maybe HK45

Love my FN Tactical 45, beast of a gun for home defense or a duty gun. Maybe conceal carry in winter. It's a big gun, ha, holds 15 rounds of 45acp. The Glock 21 is an excellent choice for striker fired, holds 13 rounds, still pretty good. The Glock 30S is probably the only real concealable double stack 45, holds 10 rounds, but can take the Glock 21 mags also.

1911 double stacks can be finicky, STI has figured them out.  For the money, they better.

That said I have two Canadian built Para ords  that run like scalded apes, and the mags were much less $.

Then if you really want cheap, the Philippine 1911 is selling a double stack.

once upon a time... my Para Ordnance high cap .45 is a gunsmith frame kit with Caspian bar stock slide, Clark barrel, Ed Brown safeties, and Swenson sight...

No love for the S&W M&P 45acp?  Love mine, it's been flawless.

FWIW, .45 is the most troublesome chambering in the 2011 platform. They can run OK but need more attention to set up correctly.

I went all-out and got this to celebrate......

STI 2011......Costa Carry Comp. 12+1 FTW.

Just got it today. Taking it to the range soon.

I like the 15rd capacity of my FNX45 Tactical but I like everything about my USP45/Tact/Mark 23 better.

I hate the safety/decocker placement on the FNX and some parts of it just don't seem as well made as an HK.  I love that capacity though.  When I carry a .45 it is the fullsize USP, even though it is "just" 12+1

2011 gets my vote for more than 10 rounds unless you have really big hands.  M&P or P227 if 10 rounds is acceptable.  The higher cap guns are just too big for my little Burger King hands.  I have a Glock 20 because 10mm is awesome, but I can barely reach the trigger on the dang thing.

Sweet blaster, but I can't see carrying that anywhere but the IDPA and USPSA.  That may not even be legal for IDPA?
I want a full range report too on that.

I really like the Glock 41. It shoots great and has yet to have a FTF with over 1,500 rounds and it is actually lighter than a 21.

Still looking at getting a 2011.

The SAR K2 is a wicked pistol.  All steel, accurate, reliable as hell and cheap...

Yeah, not happening in IDPA.   USPSA puts it into Open division, but this really isn't intended to be a competition gun.

I'll endorse the XD Tactical 45. I've won some CMP Military & Police Matches with one.

Mine feeds jacketed, plated, and lead. It's very accurate at 25 and repair center accurate at 50 yards with match ammo.

45 double stacks are heavy just from ammo weight. They make for beastly carry guns.

This definitely isn't for carry.  Not interested in the guns that hold 10 in the mag...I get that with a single stack 1911 and a CMC mag.

That SAR K2 looks interesting, and the price is good...

I forgot about the XD too. My 4" XD 45 is a great shooter, only thing it won't feed is 200gr LSWC.  The used ones are pretty cheap to boot.

Meh. It's huge and expensive. I think the USP 45 tac is a better setup at a better price. Granted the MK23 is a beautiful poly gun.

I run all of the following and havnt had one problem with any of them.

Glock 30SF
Glock 21FS
Springfield XD45 Service
HK USP45

Thinking I need a FNX 45 too.

Had the HK USP45, just couldn't bring myself to love it, so I got rid of it.  Others I still own are:  XD-45, XD-45 Tactical, XD-45c, Glock 21, and Para-Ord P14-45.

I've looked into the FN several times, but just never actually bought one.  If you are a 1911 fan, as already mentioned their are some double-stacks being imported, but you can't go wrong with a G21 or an XD-45 IMHO.

Tanfoglio Elite Match, Stock II, Stock III, Limited etc is the ticket.  Model Depending on if you want SAO or DA/SA and a rail, etc.

They are the best all-metal guns.

Original XD 45 Tactical.  I've tried 1911's and HK's but found the XD grip to be just right for me.  As I understand, the XD and XDM 45's use the same magazines (unlike their other caliber siblings) because the XD mag was designed from the beginning to be the most space efficient double stack 45 they could fit in their frames.  I've had mine for years and have no regrets.  So much so that I added the 10 round 45 compact to the stable a few years ago.  Great guns.

Don't overlook the Walther PPQ 45.

It has a trigger that HK can only dream about putting in a pistol, and I actually like my HK 45 now, but if I had to replace it, the PPQ 45 would be right at the top of my list, with perhaps a Sig in the running as well.

I'm done with the 1911 platform.   The only way to get a good one is to spend lots of money, either by hot rodding a base model, or getting one of the high end ones from the guys who do them best, and for me, their low capacity for their size and weight and their old school needy maintenance habits just no longer work.  YMMV of course, and if I won the lotto I'd have a high end one just because, but I'm done chasing the mythical beast.   Just done.

I just got out of the 1911 game altogether as well.  I would never even touch one of the doublestack raceguns.  Those are like 9mm, 10mm, or sub 4.25" 1911s to me, toys only.

Another vote for the SAR K2 45, mine has been flawless and very accurate. $370 at CDNN is a screaming deal for what you get and Mec-Gar mags can be had for $25 all day.

Just an FYI, Xd Mod.2 service 4" .45acp was just released and Springfield has the gear up and go offer for 4 free mags, a holster, and mag pouch.  I am heavily considering one in either 9 or .45

I recently went through the same decision.

I went to the local range and rented numerous .45s. At the end of the day I ended up with a Glock 21 Gen4. Shooting it side by side with many other .45s I quickly found that it's hard to beat.

I've called EAA to buy some parts for guns over the years, and they are a lot nicer than they used to be. I really didn't have much trouble getting parts I needed back when that nasty guy used to answer the phone, but it was not nearly as pleasant as it's been lately. I have no problem buying an EAA imported gun, since I have 4 of them now and had several others:

SAR K2 45
SAR K2P 9mm
Astra A-75 9mm
Witness 9mm full sized in Wonder Finish.

I also have 3 Tanfoglio guns that are identical to Witness models of the same vintage of about 25 years ago.

Because they are one in the same. Tanfoglio is the maker, EAA is the importer/distributor. It's been this way all along.

My vote is Gen4 G21. I bought one on the EE a few years ago and carried it IWB for 2 years before moving to a G19.

It's lighter with 13+1 in it than my 1911's were, lol. It shot lights out for me and was an immensely soft shooter. It has taken a back seat for the last year, but it goes to the range more than the 1911's when I'm hankering to throw some .45 down range.

Unlike most Glock guys, I didn't switch from 1911's because of reliability, just capacity.

Glock 41. I had a 21, and got rid of it. It just didn't feel right in my hand. The 41 is perfect.
