The path you're taking leads back to the shield.

the shield is nice and has a great warranty.  not expensive.  I am thinking they will bring out the more aggressive grip texturing soon.  anybody know about that??

This is the only thing I can come up with.  I hate the XDS, and would not trust a Kahr for anything other than a paperweight.

Kahr CM40 or PM40,
Walther PPS,
Springfield XD series,

PPS M2 and XDs are what I would recommend other than the shield

Didn't they make the HK P-7 in .40?  There's couple on the 1911 frame.  Don't think you have the HiPoint Fowty in mind either  Smith Shield and Kahr would be my other choices as already mentioned.

I would go with a Sig 239 or the new 225A1 if it comes in 40.

I have shot a few XDS's they are not bad but I shot them in 9 and 45.  I probably would never buy one mostly because I do not care for the XD trigger but they are good pistols none the less.

OP PPS 40, Shield 40 or XDS 40 would be my suggestion if you must have a 10mm Kurz pistol.  In the single stack world 9 reigns supreme they are more controllable, lighter recoil, and holds more rounds.

I personally like the triggers, but everyone is different. The other two options you listed would probably be my next two suggestions. I have shot them both as well, and they are both good guns...
