I’m going to buy a used Sig 226 in 9mm. I’ll be using the pistol as a plinker and I’d like to replace the factory sights with a set of high quality adjustable sights, preferably with the capability to use interchangeable front sight inserts for different light conditions. Any recommendations on which sights to buy? Also, should I get the tool that’s made specifically for Sigs to swap out sights or can someone with modest mechanical ability swap the sights out with common tools?

Thanks, Will

Some sights move fairly easily in the dovetail, some others won't budge.
The tool is expensive for one time use.                                                                                           First, shoot it as is, you may be surprised.

If you're insistent on adjustable rears, I have used the LPA sight with good results.

For a front sight I highly recommend a fiber optic of some sort.  The HiViz sights look rather cheap but they offer a huge front dot and are a very good sight for range work.  I have them on two XDs and they have held up fine so far.

The XD uses the same sights as the P226.  Here is a photo of the LPA rear and HiViz front installed on one of my XDs.  I don't think the rear will hang off the 226 as much as it does on the XD.
